I'd have to say coming from another area, fish safari is superior to anything i've been to as far as SPS selection, and coral selection goes, sometimes there prices are high like a fungiaplate for 130, but they have good quality stuff, and an awesome selection of frags

fish safari is on halland drive, and south plaza trail, they have a greenhouse outback with pond stuff. its a good LFS as long as leroy is there, because if things aren't priced no one but leroy knows them, i go there whenever i get a chance

green house out back??
I guess it has been awhile since I was there.
Its a great store and owner (wish it was bigger though ;) )
My tank has been overstocked.
I wont even mention the other place (AJ). Well maybe I should..... Stay away from Anima. Jungl.

actually, i would tend to disagree with your assesment of animal jungle. they are making a comeback in their fish department (ok, i'll admit their corals generally don't look very good). i have bought several fish, an anenome, and a coral or two that i have been quite happy with. you definitely have to scrutinize the livestock. but you should do that at any of the local stores including fish safari. as far as value goes, i have a big and beautiful long tentacle anenome that i got there for under twenty bucks. just my two cents worth.

I have a problem with buying from a store that puts their ich infested fish on display. I have seen them in a tank and folowed the plumbing which led to all the other tanks.
I will look into there just for heck of it. I swore I would never step foot in their again. But I guess I have too now.

when did they do that? was that recently?
up to about 6 months ago, i would have to agree with you. their husbandry was terrible. i still think their fish are suspect. however, their sale prices are very good. fish safari's sale prices are excellent as well, it is just that they do not happen often enough.

Oh, its been a year since I was there.
I use to go there.
Then I saw a hundred or so clown fish in a tank. 95% Ich infested. A lable was on the front of the tank advertising .... ummmmmm.... Ich Away or something like that. This was when Finding Nemo came out.

I heard there was one in Norfolk. Anyone know of anywhere other than FS and AJ?
I went to a small one aroud greenbrier a long time ago. Not alot of coral but it was clean (no algae). Tanks were coraline encrused. I cant remember where though. I live in NC so I dont have that much knowledge of Va. I have a local pet store here in NC. They have IO salt bags on sale now for $49.99 (WOW thats a deal right:hmm4: ) This is why I drive 1.5 hours to what ya'll call a LFS.

oops, hahah, good call guys, i meant to say animal jungle, fish safari is what i was talking about on princess anne, animal jungle is huge, but everything seems to have ich, and its hard for me to buy things other than drygoods from a place that would put 30 fridmani pseudos in one tank...

fish safari is on the corner of lynhaven pkway and princess anne in the walmart shopping center, near the alltel store. it is the best, i wont buy anything living from anywhere else, and their price on salt is good as well.
Leroy gave me a great price on my triggers and my tang, and they have all been wonderfully healthy. if it is unhealthy they wont sell it- they keep all fish in their store for days before they sell them to insure quality. They feed only the best foods and use quality equipment.
the 5 dollars more u may spend on ur clownfish is by far worth every penny, because u can be sure you purchased a fat, happy clown (or other fish) ready for your tank and prepared foods.

Animal Jungle has R/O water for 18 cents per gallon right now. Of the four fish I have right now, 3 came from AJ and one came from Fish Safari. I agree that Fish Safari people are more knowledgeable, but I go either place. There's been some talk about the good quality of fish at All Pet Discounters at First Colonial and Laskin Road and also at the new shopping center on Nimmo Pkwy, but I haven't ever gotten fish from there. I don't know of any fish stores in Greenbrier besides PetSmart, which doesn't have any saltwater tanks. There is a store across from Chesapeake General Hospital that used to be part of Animal Jungle, but they are separate now. I don't like the people there and the quality of anything from there is really bad too. There is a place across from Regent University (aka CBN) on Indian River Road called Ciclid Importers (or something with the word 'Ciclid') but I did not see much there the last time I went.

all pet is decent, i live right down the street from it. it's no fish safari but they usually have a decent selection of fish to choose from and from what i've seen they usually get in good sized corals; lots of lps. their anemone tanks are disgraceful though; not nearly enough light and if you go in there often enough you can watch them slowly wither away to nothing.

Right now my favorite place to go is either of the All-pet discounters. There's one on Nimmo Pkwy. near the new Wal Mart and one by Kmart on First Colonial. Nice setup, very knowledgeable staff, and their corals are BEAUTIFUL and huge, and all $49.
Fish Safari has the best setup I think, and definitely the most knowledgeable staff, but I can't afford him. I've only ever bought 1 piece of livestock from him.
Animal Jungle is ok. I always see a few fish that look iffy, but for the most part, they're alright.
Pet Paradise seems badly run, but there are some good sales every now and then.
Pets N Things in Norfolk, and Tonya's Pet world in Hampton.... I'd stay away.
That's my ratings. Take it for what it's worth.

fish safari is the best.
I used to work at animal jungle and they treat the animals like crap and are incredibly stupid when it comes to fish(some people know there stuff thou)

animal jungle *used* to be the most amazing place ~6 years ago (when they were across the street and had a massive greenhouse out back), it's really sad how far they have fallen. i don't even bother going by there when i'm home visiting the parents.

i forgot about all pet. They have a great set up and good sales on live rock- their fish however are iffy- i did buy some fish there once, they lasted a day.

There is a place in the Chesapeake square mall shopping center called Scales and Tales. It has lots of salt water fish and corals. It doesn't have as much as say Fish Safari. But for me its much closer...
I get all my info from this website. Also my buddy and I have been buying from the web. You can buy 4-5x more stuff from websites for the same price and have it shipped overnight to you.

this is sometimes true- actually usually its true. lately with fish safari however ive been paying what i would online. the two triggers i bought were about what id pay online for much smaller less mature blue throats, and the pinktail im considering is very much the same.
