Nice 7g bow front thread :) I however have a 10g nano that is just coming out of cycling and I am looking for ideas! It will be great if you guys can share some pictures of your beloved tanks. I also have a 20 and a 30 at home, I guess those fall into the nano range as well?

One sucky thing is that my electricity got cut for 2 days... it was bad, water temp fell below 70 while I constantly had to blow bubble into the tank and cook hot water... -sigh- I think I lost the two baby shrooms I brought from home

Here's my two ten-gallon nano's:

They started out as nursery tanks for my baby Banggai's. Now each tank is home to a pair of Banggai's.

I hope this works-I know it's not a very good picture. Thx Capt. for youtr help on posting.(if this works) Keeping my fingers crossed. It worked. I'm motivated to get better ones. This tank is a 10 gal.

Lighting is 1x24 jbj white 2x36 from ah supply 1 white 1 blue. My tank does rcv some sunlight from a window on the south side of my office about 12 ft away.

It has sand polyps -star polyps- a BTA (mid rt)which recently split(not split in photo)-mushrooms- candy anemone(top left) -a clam (bottom rt) .

I have a maroon(in the anemone) 1 golden head sleeper goby(mid left) and a bi-color blenny (under the candy anemone). This picture is blurry and color doesnt give the tank justice. Hopefully I'll become a better photographer.

Hellooooo everybody an updated picture. The tanks coming along nicely. You can kinda make out the Bta is smaller but there are 2.
I've also added another colony of polyps and a colt coral.

Snaf,

Your tank looks great, and it looks like you got those pictures rolling now. Good to see them. I just got my 7 gal bowfront Nano today. I hope you don't mind if I use some of your ideas.

Hi Capt,

No problem and thx for your help with posting. With your help I figured out how to post pics. Now I'm tempted to buy a better camera.

Good luck with the new tank-I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your 7 gal.

Thx again.

OK, I finally got a digital camera & found a place to park some pics. Here's the only one i have of my 10 gal right now. It's actually a FOWLR that is slowly accumulating coral frags.

Better pics this weekend.

http://home.earthlink.net/~obrienken/_uimages/10_1.jpg

Whoa! Big pic. I'll figure this out sooner or later. Anyway, if you look on the lower left hand side, near the glass, you'll see our Barnacle Blenny in his shell, and to the right, our coral banded shrimp.

I bought the manono rock about 4-5 months ago, and was happy to find a green mantis (now in a 6 gal nano) and an orange bulleye pistol shrimp in the rock. That's why we went with the DSB, which the pistol is obviously having a ball excavating. Also in the tank are an agri pygmy angel (blue) and a juv. coris wrasse.

I'll also post my 12 gal tank, but the pictures are pretty poor. That one's a bit more interesting.

Nice pics of the nanos guys, your making me want to start up another one.

Nano guy, can you give me the specs on your nano? I really like that tank style also what type of lighting were you using?

Lunchbucket:

Yeah: that's your baby. If you design one for your tank, amke it wider & more shallow. I've had some trouble with light penetration: seems that getting enough light in there to penetrate to the bottom also cooks the hell out of the surface, and really boils up some nasty stuff. Pods seem to love it, though.

If you recall, we went back & forth on the dimensions, etc. Here's a pic to show you how the actual setup fit in behind the tank.

your pic no worky!! yeah i want/would make it shallower and longer. i am gonna make it as long as the tank and only like 3" taller so i can have the water line in it about 1 1/2" above the tank and 1 1/2" below the top of the refugium. so like 20"Lx15"Tx 4" or 6" deep. then put a 4"deep sand bed and i am thinking a 13w light on top of w/ a cheaping hood somehow.

get that pic up if you could i would love to see it. i hope you are happy w/ it.

thanks

The pic is coming! I'm new to this digital camera $%^@! Oh, it's a FujiFinePix 6800Zoom.

Anyway, here's the pic. If you recall, we were attempting to fit the refugium next to the BakPak2 skimmer. I believe the dimensions were something like 15" tall, 4" front-to-back, and around 10-12" left to right. (the tank's downstairs).

I would recommend at least tank-width, left-to-right, and aboout 4" is fine front - to -back, but a little more shallow, top-to bottom. Since mine is deep (top-bottom) and narrow (left-right), I'm having light problems, and the macro really blocks all of th elight from the bottom of the refugium. Plus, there isn't enough lateral water fllow.

wow kennard i really like!! makes me smile that i made something that you are using on your tank!!

i hope it is working as far as craftsmanship ;) yeah i definately (if i make one) do a 20"L x 15"tall x 6"D. that would be a great size. i have one that i made for my 55gal tank that is 24x12x6 i could mod to work...just make a stand for it to sit on and i would be in business...but it doesn't have that built in overflow like i made in yours kennard.

anyother tips to make my next one? 1" pipe for the gravity feed to the tank right?

for you dsb in your 10gal did you use 4" of sand? i didn't think it looked like you did but pics can be decieving. i am slowly adding to my 2.5"-3" to make it 3"-4 in for sure!!

thanks i hope all goes well
and please get more pics of your tanks...i am interested in that 12 gal you have....looks like you have a lot of nice stuff!!

thanks

The flow isn't as good as I'd like it, and the dimensions are limiting, in that you can't put too much caulerpa in there across the bottom, and once it grows toward the light, it blocks out everything, and then, even worse, blocks off any flow into the bottom of the refuge.

Anyway, I just measured the DSB in the 10 gal: 4" in the deepest spots, and 1 3/4" in the most shallow. The pistol shrimp has 7 or 8 tunnels coming out of the bottom of the main rock, so he moves it around pretty well. Uses rubble and old snail/hermit shells to brace the doorways, etc. Pretty cool. The coris wrasse spends a good part of the day buried in the sand, too. I used Southdown playsand to keep them from scratching the hell out of themselves.

In the refuge, I have 2.5" sand bed, which is what was left from the little critter tank I originally had my mantis shrimp camped out. I ordered a full-out critter kit from IPSF and split it amoung the three nanos. Super-diversity!

I bought the 12 gallon exactly a year ago, and it had been running for 3 years or so. As my first tank, I just left the sand bed as it was. I think it's only 2.25" at it's deepest point.

Hey, Chris..the 2x32's on my 10 are the set I purchased from you, back when you first started the website.

I'll be contacting you about where to ship my RO unit:D

Also need to get some better pics to you for a web page @ nano-reefs.com

Glad the lights are working well for you!

Just send your photos along with a description of each tank and I'll set up a page for you. Send them to chris@nano-reef.com. Stop by the nano reef chat or message board sometime...we haven't talked in a long time.
