I have a 30 galleon tank w/ 2 hanging filters, a Bakpak skimmer, and one powerhead right now. The main filter is a aquaclear 110 and i think it and the powerhead might be causing to much flow for my fish to swim out in the open and in the front of the tank. They just stay behind the live rocks most of the day. So my question is do you think u have to much flow? I'm also plaining on getting more live rock this week so when i get it should i lay it against the back of the tank so the fish can't get behind it and have to swim out in the open?

How long have the fish been in there. They may still be getting adjusted and can be a little scared. What kind of fish do you have? Some hide a lot.

I have 920 gph in my tank and it is a 42 hex. You do not have to much flow. I would say you have not had the fish in very long.

i have three fish that do it. 2 damsels that have been in there for about 3 months and 1 blue hippo(baby) that's been in it for about a month. So given that what else could be the reason?

you better not post that you have a hippo in a 30 anywhere else on this site or the tang police will get you. It takes awhile for some fish to like the idea of swimming out in the open. just give them some time. do they hide when you approach tank or all the time?

sometimes when i come to the tank and then other times they'll just stay in the back for long periods of time before coming out for a few minutes

try hand-feeding the fish. i hold a cube of frozen food and they peck at it. this has made my fish *very* friendly- they never hide anymore.

he still eats out of my hand, he's just gotten smart enough that i can't catch him with my hand anymore...
