I was poking round at home depot and found a pump called "Flowtron 1/3 HP Sump Pump" on the box's list of recommended usage includes the word "Aquarium" so I was thinking this could be a worthwhile return pump as it's pressure rated the box states a flow at zero head being like 1800 GPH and at 15 feet of head about 1200 so I was wondering-has anyone tried these?
It's in a plastic housing so it seems aquarium safe (and the box says so) cos hell it's only a $69 pump with a 1" hole for teh return pipe!

Good question - keep in mind though that Aquarium use doesn't always mean saltwater safe.

I would like to see/hear more about this.

I copied this thread to the Reef Discussion forum. Maybe we can all learn something about this pump.

I have seen the Flotec pump and home depot and I know for sure that it doesn't work with saltwater ( I emailed the company). Is this the same pump?

My guess is that there is almost no chance this is saltwater safe since a sump never is used in a salt water environment. Also if it is not specifically rated for continuous duty then it probably isnt.

There are so many good pumps why risk this.
