I spoke with gary the other day regarding this. My system is pretty small. A total water volume of less than 30 gallons. I run carbon passively in my sump. About a filter sock full. Will i have problems fragging a nepthea inside the display?

It depends on how big the nepthea is.

Personally, I'd do a water change ... then frag it in the bucket of `old water' ... and give it circulation for an hour or so.

IMO, leathers have a lot of slime + nasties. But ... I have fragged in my 40 breeder + not had an issue. I just prefer not to, if I can.

Middletonmark on the MTRC page! Thanks for stoppin by. I agree that it is best to remove it(I allways do) but if it is small I don't think it will cause a problem.

My brother's family is in Middle Tennesse, and I played in a bluegrass band for a few years ... so I just included myself.

[though I include myself in everything by browsing `get new']
Just praying that the various reef clubs don't all send me bills for my dues all at once :eek1:

If I am intruding, my apologies.

FWIW I just recently cut my nepthea in my tank and I have just a little more than 30 gal total vol. a couple digis polyps, green stars, and a leather closed up for a couple days...I did a 10 gal water change and all went back to normal. Im running carbon in my sump also. I wont be cutting mine in tank anymore.

I hacked up three large sarcos and several mushroom colonies about two weeks ago. Got a diatom breakout the next day, but the second day everything returned to normal. I was testing the waters, but don't think I'll be doing that to my sps any more. MiddletonMark's idea is much better.

much appreciated. I think i'll wait on the fragging. It's not worth it right now.
