Hey Matt,

What red bugs are these ? BTW apologies to Nick and you for not being able to show up for Nick's move. My wife had painters coming in the next day, so I had to move stuff that night in preparation. Nick - got the tubs back. Hope they helped ...

no problem, most of the time was trying to figure setting things up once it was moved. actual moving took no time at all.

red bugs are tiny parasitic copepods that live on acropora.
here's a good pic of them on a really stressed out acro:
http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=43540&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500
they irritate corals, make them grow slow and lose color. they don't usually outright kill it but certainly can. though my acros don't look too bad even though they are just as covered as the one in the pic (so i'm a bit excited to see how they react once they are free of the bugs).

they *only* eat acro, and will starve in a few days if they don't have one to munch on. they also deliberately live on the acro, it's a very small chance that you'd get one from water or a frag of something else from an infected tank. they say they are excellent swimmers, and swim directly from one acro to another, they don't just hang out in the water column, even when babies.

people are treating their whole tanks with a dog medicine called interceptor that kills all crustaceans to get rid of them. i'm going to move my acros to another tank for a few days to treat so i don't kill all my good little critters.
