I don't think that anyone wants to post after Amy so I guess that I will get it over with.
This is my little 1/2 gallon that I have in my store.

I saw your Nano today Chris its nice! so so tiny! I would like one like that for my dest somday, or maybe a dwarf seahorse one like that.

LVfishguy
08/18/2004, 12:01 PM
It was originally put up for a group of dwarfs that came in one day. They were smaller than the lenght of my finger nail! They never should have been shipped. lost all the poor little guys but, it gave birth to my little pico reef. Takes some daily attention but, not to bad. I have got the daily top off thing worked out and all is well!

Amy he is COOL! What kind of a crab is that?

TippyToeX
08/21/2004, 08:18 PM
Thanks Donna! :D It is an Anemone crab. They are also listed as Porcelain crabs. They are filter feeders. I dislike crabs in a reef tank as a rule, but these guys are 100% reef safe and harmless. They use anemones as their host (if you don't have an anemone it will use other corals gladly).

Look at the picture Greg posted here (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=423784). You can see it's filter fans.

LVfishguy
08/21/2004, 08:37 PM
I knew that you would give into the crabs one day!~

TippyToeX
08/21/2004, 08:42 PM
:D It's the opportunistic omnivorous crabs I'll never give into!

08/22/2004, 02:38 AM
how much do they run amy? i've seen them before, but not in that much detail, and i had no idea that they were just filter feeders, now i want one~!! i saw one at ATM1 a few weeks back too...

TippyToeX
08/22/2004, 02:44 AM
Dusty, does yours go to any one coral as a host? I've heard they like to move to different host corals often. Wondering how true that is. :)

Bob, he cost me $8. Can't beat that. I wouldn't pay any more, unless it was a very colorful one.

the Undone guy
08/22/2004, 02:54 AM
8 bucks huh?@! im getting one next time i find one. He's awsome. he'll have to go in my 20 gallon though, damn eel!=)

Mine was in the anemone till we got it out of the tank. Now I havent seen him in about a month. Hubby said he saw the "fans" out the other day on the back of the rocks but I havent seen with my own eyes to know for sure he still lives.
Yes those suckers are cheap and cute!

TippyToeX
08/23/2004, 12:26 AM
Thanks for the info Dusty. Mine seems to like ricordia land for the time being. :) Here he is with his fans out.

I got 6 of them with my rock, all doing well and fanning the water like maniacs, definatly a great addition to any tank.

Mine are not shy anymore, just look at them like i have cyclopeeze in my hand and they run out and start doing the wave.

the Undone guy
08/23/2004, 01:17 AM
if i dont have any corals or anything in my 20gal would he be sad? And how do i make sure he'd be being fed properly, i've got like 3 clam thingies that seem to be alive still~

TippyToeX
08/23/2004, 01:29 AM
Matt that is very cool! Now I want a whole army of them. :D I fed cyclop-eeze tonight and I could see him enjoying life.

Bob, no worries. :) as long as they are well fed I'm sure he will be happy to call any rock his home. They are filter feeders so they like the plankton and micro plankton. So we are talking green water (phytoplankton) or little itty bits of food such as cyclop-eeze. A tank with some good nutrients for it to eat should be fine.

the Undone guy
08/23/2004, 01:57 AM
cyclop-eeze it is! time to start the phone calls to jaque~

Was just gonna mention that Chris, I picked up a couple bars at GVA last week, they have a ton of it.

Its pretty fun to watch at feeding time, they all come to the front of the tank where the current is strongest and starting waving like lunatics. Its like i have my own reef tank cheerleading team.

here is a full shot of my 60 gal. reef tank in our frontdesk of our office (notice the beautiful charts on the table behind...).

this was taken the first day bleaching pocillopora was noticed. he is located in the center just right of the outflow.

he is gone now, so need something new!

nice tank Dallas! amazingly clean & well laid out.

dallast
08/25/2004, 01:47 PM
thanks for that! had a lot of ups and downs in this tank, believe me!

no, that's not another tank, it's just the cpr overflow to the sump. but there is a 6 gal. nano just above this tank on top of the desk (not in picture).

let's see some more tanks!

TippyToeX
08/26/2004, 03:49 AM
Wow Dallas! :D Looks great. It must be soothing for people to watch as they wait. Do you get a lot of feedback on it day to day?

dallast
08/26/2004, 02:34 PM
oh yes, everyday! the kids really love it and the parents/adults are always asking questions. i have inspired a few people to get into the hobby. they always ask how much work is involved...you have to be honest! this acknowledgement usually frightens a few away.

it is definitely a positive force in our very non-dental-like atmosphere we have created. i think our patients prefer the less clinical look and feel that some practices have. and my wife is a great dentist and person in general....that who really keeps them coming back!

okay, enough gushing. let's get more creatures in my tank!

TippyToeX
08/26/2004, 04:51 PM
That is really awesome. I get scared out of my whits when I am at the dentist. It would be nice to watch the coral sway in the current and not think about drills. :D

Amy, it my nothave been as clear as some of your pics, but way better than any I take!

I know this is a little off topic, but....

All of my bristle worms are half black and half the color of yours. I've never seen one in my tank that was all one color. Is it possible that they are all breeding all of the time?
