Well I finally did it. Stacking the rock and placing/gluing the corals was the most time consuming part(about 7-8 hours). Everything seems to be working good so far and the livestock seems very happy. Don't have the osmolator hooked up yet but hope to by the end of the week. It's amazing how good a quality skimmer works. A good skimmer was basically the whole point of getting a RR and now I'm glad I did:-)

I thought you bought a MRC skimmer. What happened to that? Should I ask....

I ended up sending it back. Andy and I went round and round(constructively) about what was wrong with it and I finally had just had it. It created about 50 gph of skimmate:-o A little too much obviously. Andy was nice about it when it was all said and done and completely refunded my money when I returned the skimmer. Even thanked me for the condition I returned it in.

Sorry to hear that. This is the first time I've heard of someone having problems with his equipment.

Hey Chris
Congrats on getting the tank up! I bet you are glad to have it behind you.
I still want to see your plumbing set-up and sorry I didn't get over there yet. Work has become all-consuming lately.
I hope you will document the new tank with photos and share with us.

That's a great looking tank! I re-did my aqua-scape yesterday in about an hour (250 lbs out and back in) but it doenst look nearly as good as yours. I still have the islands of rock look.

Did you have to re-mount a bunch of those corals?

Thanks Imsqueak,
Yes I had to remount all of them. In the pic above some still aren't remounted. FWIW I like the islands of rock look:-)

I agree with Fishdoc11 that your islands of rock look really cool. You could even cobine two of them togather and have ove very large one and two small ones.

Chris, I was talking to Dave (commiphora) about that and he said he can usually just pop them off the rock with a screwdriver type tool. I'm concerned that since I'm not totally satisfied with my scape, but I'm adding corals, how hard is it? and how many I may screw up if I ever decide to re-scape it? I guess I could pull the rock, hammer and chisel the rock itself... How did you do it?

I usually mount my frags to a rock a little larger than a golf ball but the size varies greatly. I then glue the frag rock(some people call it a "spacer rock") to the live rock. That way you can move the coral if you need to without disturbing the encrusting part. I use super glue to do both and it will usually break free from the live rock with a little wiggling and pulling. When the coral encrusts it will eventually encrust onto the live rock and at that point it is harder to get it off. Then I usually use a sturdy butter knife to pry it off. They are not that hard to remove up until they encrust onto the live rock, then they are a little harder but not impossible by any means.
