It was kinda thrown around that the club would buy a whole skid or whatever you call it of SD. One of hubby's co-workers is looking at getting in on the fun and hubby made a mention of SD, so now we're being harassed to get a few bags. *eye roll* I guess I could always use a few bags myself. Any other takes for Reeftechie's offer?

What size bags do they come in? I could prolly use 20 lbs or so. Not for me but a friend of mine who is wanting to start a reef tank as well. So if you need anyone else to go in on it with ya I can prolly commit to 20 lbs or so. Just let me know what the price is and ill run it by my friend.

They come in 50 lb bags, I have 25 in my garage now...I believe a skid comes with 45 bags...

I know a friend at HD in C-ville that could probably help us get a skid if that's what everyone wants to do...lemme know...

If the HDs up here won't get anymore in I know a few from FWMAS that will probably go in on it.

I'll have hubby check with him on Wed how many he wants....I'm thinking at $7 a pop I personally will commit to five bags...plus whatever he wants. If I don't get any, I'll regret it later.

I know the Regional manager for HD, she can have it transferred from any store to any store in Indy, and they come in 50 bag lots of 50 lbs. Let me know and I can have her order it, and we can all meet on the day it comes in. Depending on what store she gets them from will determine the price, if I can get her to get them from Louisville they are cheaper then IL. Let me know and I will look into it today and give her a ring.

Thanks,
RT

Well i originally said 20lbs... but if they come in 50's I'll go in for one. Didnt realize they came in 50# bags. By the way how much you think should go in a 40gal tank? lb wise... ?

There is a sand bed calculator on the main page of Reef Central...I will help you figure out how much sand you need in relation to how deep you want your sand bed...

I put 50 lbs in the wife’s 37 gallon tank, I like a nice deep sand bed with lots of life, seahorses are going in there. My 230 has about 350 lbs my soon to be 125 will have no sand, going to try one without for fun., but my first 230 and 180 all had 500 lbs in them.. Its all in what you like the look to well... look like I guess.

I want 10 bags so we have accounted for 25 from just me and Shawn. coope wants 5 and od wants 1 so we have 31.. so we need to commit to 20 more. After that I will call her and have her place that order.

RT,
I need about 10 bags. Did you guys ever order it yet? Do you think I can pick them up at the September meeting?

Reetechie,
I am in NWI and I have been looking for this stuff forever. I am setting up a 200 gallon and my Dad is setting up a 120. Maybe we can work something out since you have connections with Home Depot. Do you think you can get some shipped to the Michigan City store up in NWI? I would be forever in your debt.
Thanks,
CK

By the way, when is the meeting this coming month? I know it is in INDY but I don't know the exact location.
Thanks,
CK

Sounds like all are accounted for, but if 4-5 bags are available I'll buy 'em. I'm new to the reef community and getting ready to set up my first tank.

thanks

I thought all the bags were accounted for, also. If there are any more left, or if there is going to be another group buy, I want in. I need somewhere around ten bags or so.

It sounds like there is enough interest to have another group buy.

I need 20 bags or so.
Tkaplan needs 5
Arch Angel need 10

Is SD available in Indy?

Shaw,
That would be great! I could meet you in SB. Or I could show you my tank. I always like to see other hobbyist's setups so I often extend the offer to others. I am setting up a 200 gallon inwall.
I have some Kenya tree frags and some mushrooms and zoos.

I am waiting for Reef Techie to reply to the status of the last group buy and if he would be so gracious to maybe do another?

Ckaldahl, let me know if our group buy becomes a definite. I may need more than ten bags. I haven't decided yet.

Has anyone heard from Reef Techie or knows about the previous group buy and if it happened yet or not?

reeftechie

It has not happened yet. I just got off the phone with her, she is going to try and bring in 2 pallets for me. I have to pay her up front so I have to make sure I have all the money at the meeting, and HAVE to make sure I have it all pre-sold, the wife will get pi55ed off if I get stuck with $200 worth of sand :D and so will I

Reeftechie, where do you live? I'm a little worried about getting to where the sand will be delivered. Could we use PayPal to pay you?
