Alright, let's get this party started. Starting to build a new 400 gallon system. Here's a couple pictures of the stand. Does it look strong enough? I figure it will be about 3600 pounds with all the water, sand and rocks, maybe 3612 with the fish. :crazy1: It's got 2 2x6's around the rim notched into the 4x4's and whole lot of liquid nails. I am going to put a pan in the bottom that will hold water. Lots more photos to come. Yes, I am painting the treated wood.

Tim, did you ever see how I built the stand for my 400? I used 4x4 posts on all ends and in the front middle/back....I notched them to accept the 2x6...I then used 2x6 joists every 12" on center.....

my 4000 pound block used metal stud fasteners screwed in for a little extra protection

Good craftmanship, you dont think you'll need any other standerds (studs) on the long sides for door stops and to carry you vanieer?

You need to go into your RC user Photo album area and download the pic there. Once thats done there will be a link supplied that you use for the IMG tag.

Did that make any sense.

I think that 3600 lbs might be a little low on the weight estimate

Tank 500-800 lbs depending on glass or acrylic estimate 650 lbs
350gal of salt water at 10 lbs per gal ~3500 lbs (at 1.026 Specific Gravity water weighs around 9-10 lbs per gal)
Rock ~300 lbs
Hood ~200 lbs
Lights ~100 lbs

Total 4750 lbs

But with all that said, I think your stand will be just fine:D

Looks great, I would put another 4X4 right in the center of the long sides like Mafiaman said...

I havent decided yet how many doors I'm going to do, two or three. I also kind of wanted to have more open access down there. I know the 4 4x4's will hold the weight and the 2x6's are arched about 1/4 inch in the middle and they are all held together with liquid nails and nails so they make a beam. But it is probably a good idea. Just haven't decided yet.

Good Morning, question about the tank.... will it be drilled in the back like Andy's or will it be reef ready with overflows in the corners???

If Overflows are in the corner, one should consider how much framework of the stand may cover the bulkhead openings therefore blocking their use or future access to them.

Just something I ran into as I was designing my stand for my 180 corner overflow tank.... Just FYI

It looks great - Have fun!!

Dale,The overflow will be in the center of the tank. Then I can put all the rock in the center. It is going to be a walkaround tank.

Aren't you worried about the tank going through your floor? 4500-5000 lbs... that seems like a lot!
