If I used base rock in my tank would I have to put quite a bit of live rock in with it to seed? I have maybe 20# right now I wonder if that would be enough?

I have about 70lbs of "live rock" I bought at a local LFS in my 55gal. If your tank has some coralline algae in it, you'll eventually not be able to tell the difference. IMHO, you're better off buying base rock and seeding with a few lbs of good LR than buying the stuff locally. I didn't get much coralline growth until I started buying frags from local hobbyists. Now I have to scrape the crap off - it's almost a workout.

Do you suppliment any calcium or use any kind of suppliments to help the growth of your coraline algae? I have a little on one of my rocks I have bought and it looks like it is pealing off and kind of pale now.

Coraline loves CA/ALK and flow.

I supplement my tank with seachem reef complete, reef plus, and reef carbonate - where there is flow, there is coralline - enough of it that I have considered pulling down my background.
