Anybody know a good source for acrylic in indy? Need probably 3/8 inch or so (building a sump).

I think it is US Plastics. I bought a nice piece of blue acrylic for my diy internal overflow. They also sell all the weld-on types.

Don't suppose you have an address, phone #, or web site do you?

Nevermind, I'm going to go with Meyer Plastics I think.

I have bought alot of Acrylic from Total Plastics Inc.
They are great people to work with. They are in Indianapolis,
with good prices and advice on how to handle the sheet. I have made alot of wet/dry filters that fit into your sump with the overflow boxes to go with them, I'm a welder/fabricator at an Avon machine shop, so i have access to some of the badest tools on the planet. Any questions just ask me.

Haha, sure, you wanna make this for me? LOL

I also work in Avon, at Speck's Pet Supply.

I notice they don't list Weld On #7 (which I've been told is the best to use for aquarium use) in their product catalog, which do you use to bond the acrylic together?

i use weld on #3, it was what TPI recommended i use. I had made a few wet/dry filters for Pet Warehouse in Greenwood, would liked to have made more but they never would get back with me about it. I bought a 4'x8' sheet for about 60.00 if i remember right. I still have some in my stocks, maybe i should come and see you at Specks. You've more than likely seen me i there looking at the stock.

what was the thickness of the 4x8 sheet? no chance they sell 4x4's?

mabye a few of us could get a group buy- and split up a sheet, to get the cheaper prices.. i am looking to build a 8-10 gallon for my new mantis :)

meyer plastic will sell you any size, and if you like, they will sell you all precut material, then you just have to glue it together...a little more expensive, but i think its worth it. cutting that stuff makes a mess...

why i am planning on cutting it at my dad's shed ...

how much more are we talking?...

i might also be looking to build myself a overflow box- if i can ever get my tank drilled....

I use a table saw with a 10" 80 tooth carbid tiped blade, leaves a nice edge. Run a file over the edges and its ready for glueing. About the glue, #3 is like water and the others are thicker as the number gets higher. I like the #3 because it flows into the seams, while the thicker stuff leaves spider web strings all over.

hey matt, I got a 4x3 piece of 1/8"thick. I think this would be think enough for baffles? They had thicker and it wasnt much more in price.

you can use 1/4 inch too, just gotta brace it...but /8 would be better...

remember baffles have equal pressure on both sides [for the most part] so there is no support that they are really doing- 1/8 would probably work for most baffles.. 1/4 i would use for safety's sake...
