Hey everyone,

I have been MIA lately trying to battle my hair algea and was ashamed of my aquarium skills. Hope all is well with your tanks. I have been scrubbing the rosk aggresively and doing 40% water changes after scrubbing. The tank has been responding well and I hope this new refugium will help as well. I used L brackets to make a shelf slightly higher than my tanks water level. I am trying to figure out how to post pictures from the VT website so they may or may not come up below

L brackets and screws ($4)
I used a 5 qt. (I think) container ($5)
NO 15W plant light ($10)
1/2" tubing 6 feet ( $1.50)
and I am using a DJ50 submersible filter i already had as a pump (not sure GPH)

Finished product:

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Ian

i have some cheatomorpha for your fuge. all the kids here on RC say it's the best fuge algae around. just stop by my office during business hours and i'll give you some. 900 south main street- halfway between downtown and zooquatic, on the campus side of main street- sign on the front door says 'foresters incorporated'.

Keep an eye on those silicon attached tubes. I had them on mine and after about a week they started leaking on me. I later used a regular tank bulkhead with a bead of silicon around the seal and didn't have a problem (this was with the rubbermaid before I switched to a glass tank).

Gordo- Thanks for the warning. I have been pretty tender with them thus far and have not noticed any leaks yet. I have already decided that i want to drill another tub because my backup overflow is flowing at about 15%. I mistakenly used tubes with the same diameter as my intake and gravity is having a little difficulty keeping up.

Matt- Thanks for the macro it looks great in there. so far the tank looks about 200% improved over the last month. I have hope again. I spent 3-4 hours of tank watching last night and saw all these cool things a havent noticed before. My poor neglected children.

a queen conch will clean up all that hair algae in about 3 days. the only problem is they get big.
