Dont know if it is related, but it seems to be, when I removed the sand sifting star, I noticed a few start shaped bits of algae on my sandbed, and my tank was having a very severe algae breakout. Since he has been removed, there is no algae anywhere on my sandbed, and it is receding considerably on the rocks... I think the star was stiring up stuff from the sandbed before it had time to run its course, releasing alot of nutrients into the tank. So they are not just eating our beneficial DSB critters, but releasing tons of nutrients into the tank as well...

Just thought I would mention it,

I think it's more likely that removing the star is increasing bacterial and microbe populations in the sand bed that it was eating. Whatever it was, it sounds like the tank is improving after its removal.
