hi randy, I have a purple tang in QT that last night looked fine and this am he has white patchy skin. (see the thread in reef discussion for pics.) I thought it might be a result of high nitrite in the water. you mentioned in your recent article however, that nitrite can be tolerated by SW fish up to 100 ppm. could you elaborate on this at all or tell me where to find the references you listed from the article? thanks!

Spotte has an extensive discussion of nitrite toxicity in "Captive Seawater Fishes" and that is where I accepted his conclusion that nitrite is not really very toxic to marine fish.
