I just went to feed the tanks and found that my clarkii that I have had for almost 3 years have spawned and are guarding there eggs. They are in my big rose tank.
This is there first time as far as I know. I have never seen any eggs in the tank before this
So excited and wanted to share.
I know they wont survive in the tank but its still fun to see.

That may be my next project, setting up a tank to raise them.

Very cool :)

So what would you need in order for them to survive? Any idea on the conditions, supplies, etc? Just curious.

The eggs hatched on the 28th, of course they were either eaten or taken up in the filters. But my pair is again readying the same rock for more eggs.
I put a saucer in behind the rock in hopes they would use it but they wont go near it.
Here they are cleaning up and getting ready to lay more eggs.

F-N, did anything change in the tank that started the mating? I've had a pair for over 2yrs. without spawning activity then put in moonlights & presto--like rabbits, spawn, after spawn, after spawn. Of course, they ended up always eating the eggs/hatchings,Bob

Hi Aged salt, no nothing, and to my surprise, they are now laying and he is fertilizing them after her, and now I know which one is the female also.
Taking picture as she lays and he fertilizes.
Oh my gosh, I forgot about the 2 actinics I added a few weeks ago, I have 2, 20gallon strip lights on the front of the top of the tank with actinics in them. They run all day and I leave one on at night so half the tank is lit in blue, gosh, never gave that a thought , I bet thats what got them to spawing.
I am so excited to see the spawn again. Not sure about raising them.
Sounds like so much work but am trying to learn about raising the food for them.
Here are picture I am taking right now as she lays and he fertilizes, its amazing to watch.

hahahahha, What a good idea, Berry White, lol, they are named George and Gracy.
But never new which one was which until today. Guess they is why they were always giving silly looks when I called one of them one of those names and they would point to the other one. I had no idea who was who, was just wishfull thinking all this time. Now I do have a George and Gracy.

They just layed there third batch today, the darn little buggers refuse to use the saucer I put in a few weeks ago. When the last fry hatched it was behind the rock they have been laying on, so when this last bunch hatched, I moved it around in front of the rock they lay on, well, they moved it, its now away from the front of the rock and the third bunch is now layed on the same rock as the first and second was.
Has anyone ever raised fry outdoors in Az? In tanks?
I have no room to set up what I need to raise them and would love to set them up outdoors. But am affraid it will not work. Anyone ever do that?

We gotta find a better place for the auction! I agree with Crystal that it needs to be a little more centrally located too. Its 37 miles one way from my house now. Maybe somewhere around central Phoenix? Sorry I had to leave early but Family calls.

Did you say central Phoenix? I thought this was the east valley club? I wouldnt drive to central phoenix for the meetings, no way. To far for me.

Its about 35 miles from me and I live on the east side.So central Phoenix would be almost 50 one way.

lol its almost 60 miles one way for me. I dont care where they move but anymore eastward would just be wrong.
