Come and meet Crissy Huffard

on "The Fascinating Behavior of Octopus and Other Indonesian Cephalopods in their Natural Habitat"

Abstract of Presentation: In Crissy's presentation she will discuss the behavior of Octopus aculeatus and other Indonesian cephalopods in their natural habitat. Octopus aculeatus is an intertidal, day-active, arm-dropping species, and one of the only octopuses known to fight for mates. The presentation will also show some video of and talk about octopuse and cuttlefish that live on sandy bottoms known as "muck." These include the "Wonderpus" and flamboyant cuttlefish found in the Lembeh Strait, Sulawesi.

Bio of Presentor: Ms. Huffard earned her B.S. in marine science/biology from Long Island University at Southampton in 1997, and then studied octopus taxonomy with Professor Eric Hochberg in Santa Barbara and Clyde Roper at the Smithsonian. She has spent most of the past three years away from the Bay Area, studying the behavior and ecology of Octopus aculeatus in Sulawesi, Indonesia. On the side, she helps with projects that rehabilitate coral reefs destroyed by dynamite fishing.

There is also a SAND SWAP at this meeting! Bring a cup of your best live sand and get a cup plus back. We'll gently mix yours with other contributions and add some WonderMud from Indo-Pacific Sea Farms to enrich the mixture even more!! This is a great opportunity to increase the biodiversity in your tank!
