Just trying to get some prices for a 7 gal bowfront setup. The tank, the 32 watt light, live sand, and pump or power head. Also how much live sand would I need, and what size power head(would really like to have a spray bar). Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Only thing i can comment on is the price of the 7g bow front. I looked into one too. Cheapest i found was in a store was i think a Petco in Erie, PA for $59.99 In Pittsburgh, PA they were $69.99.

Figure a PH will run under $20, light not sure depends on what brand/type you get? I'm sure the others with bow fronts will chime in and their seems to be tons on this board! You may want to consider a heater depending on where you live and how much your temps swing (under $15). For the LS try finding someone in your area to gets some off of. Dont think you would need much more than a cup or two to get started. That or the LR will help seed it some. My 20g tank never had LS added, all the life came from the rocks. Dont forget you will have afew odd ball items too. I think it could probably be setup for under $200 not counting the livestock?

This is from the top of my head, theres 2 list. One for my 10 gallon at home and one for my work 7 bowfront. MO means mail order.

10 gallon tank - 9.99
stand - 15.00
powersweep PH 212 - 13.99 MO
maxi mini pump - 24.99
penguin powerhead - 20.00
Penguin Mini-Bio wheel - 24.99
Red Sea Prizm skimmer - 65.99 MO
EboJagger 150 watt heater(overkill) 14.95 MO
DIY wood hood - 25.00 apx.
2x36 watt AHSupply.com PC kit - 115.00 MO
Kent AquaDose 2.5 gallon - 22.95 MO
Live Rock 14 LBS - 42.00 MO
Live Sand 15 lbs (really crushed coral :( ) - 45.00 lbs MO

TOTAL - appx $440.00

On a side note I would use a 175 MH kit, about the same money but more lite. Bought my 175 watt MH Icecap for 125.00 and it came with 2 bulbs. Also dont use AHSupply Blue PC bulbs, use some from MarineDepot..

Work tank
Bowfront tank with skilter and 32 watt smartlite - $115.00
sold skilter for $40.00 on ebay
Sold smartlite for $40.00 to private buyer
Half a bag of South Down sand - got from frag trade
12 lbs Uncured LiveRock, bits and pieces from LFS(pays to be friendly with employees:D ) - free
Thermometer - 1.99
Rio Powerhead 90 - 7.99 MO
Powersweep 212 (I like these, can you tell?) - 12.99 MO
Penguin BioWheel Mini(these too) - 13.99 MO
100 watt EboJagger heater(ditto :D) - 13.99
175 watt Icecap MH ballast with 2 german 12K bulbs - $120.00

Total - $191.00

I included the MH ballast even though Im going to put it on my 10 gallon at home. Im going to put the 2 x32 AHSUPPLY kit on my tank at work...

Needless to say I got smarter during my experience with the 10 gallon.

The ten gallon cost me alomst $450 dollars while the 7.5 gallon is costing me about $200. Well it pays to do thingss through mail order and private sellers.

If I was setting up a tank at home I would use a 10 gallon tank. There cheaper and its easier to find stuff for them... Im still trying to plan on how to put the 2x36 watt kit over my bowfront...

Goodluck!

Where did you find a icecap MH ballast and bulbs for $120??? I'm assuming that's just for the ballast or do you know somebody:)

Just lucky I guess. I was in need of a MH ballast and someone offered me a used ballast with socket for $80. I said sure and then he offered me 2, 3-5 month old german 12K bulbs for a total of $120. I consider it very lucky and they work great. One of my LFS friends gave me a PFO reflector Im going to cut up to fit over my 10 gallon tank.

Should be fun. And there are some bargains to be found in the used equipment forum.

Later!
