I’m planning on attending your meeting and would like to bring some of my zoos to trade; can anyone offer some fragging advice? Also would anyone be interested in a small green plate coral (about the size of a quarter) or some baby toadstools?

From everything I've read for fragging zoos, you need to undercut the mat with a razor/xacto blade. Cut across the top seperating the zoos. Glue new mat using super-glue gel to a small piece of rock. It's also recommended that you do this in a small container outside the tank and throw out the water when done. Also make sure you don't have any open cuts on your hands when doing this.

Good Luck
Mike

I have some of those browns with green centers if you want to do a trade.....I'd rather have the red zoos than the yellows ,...let me know:rolleye1:

JJM, All the rocks that the zoos are on are big and thick (no cracking them off) and most of them completly cover the rocks they are on.

the I would follow scouts method ,...just get them off the rock , I wouldnt try to remount this close to the meeting ,...if you can get them off in pcs , people could mount them themselves ,....so If you can get some reds off and you want to trade for browns/greens let me know
just make sure you use gloves anytime you are actually cutting zoo bases or stalks

Dr King, Many people want my red zoos and I could probably fill all the requests if I could figure out how to remove them from the rocks without damaging them, I have hundreds of them and they are dug in thick, the mat doesn’t want to part with the rocks, they just come off one polyp at the time any fragging advice would be much appreciated.>>>>>>>>>>GEBC

GEBC,

Here's a thread on fragging zoos from Nanoreef.com. Brian from Logical Reef responds with his methods as well. It's a pretty good instructional, if you're interested.

then if ya want to frag it then the rock will have to part with the rock....hammer , lg screwdriver , razor blade, gloves, eye protection, and a shut mouth is all ya need...it aint pretty , but 99% of the zoos on the rock will make it

dont get me wrong , I am not a advocate of breaking up large zoo colonies, I think the bigger the better , I just mean to say if you want to break up the pc and spread the wealth , there is a way ,...I have a couple of big colonies myself and would never break them up , but on the other hand I have seen some pc for sale that could easily be broke into 6 or 8 blocks of 40 or so zoos and spread out thru the club, costing each operson like $5 0r $10 to do it...other than that I just take the zoos that fall off, put them in a small glass jar in a seperate tank and wait till I have a few and then glue them onto one multi rock I am working on

Hi guys, I just busted up a large colony of my red zoos(using JJMs method, about 400+ polyps)< I swapped Scout a colony of about 140+ for a HUGE cabbage coral (basketball size), now I’m left with 14 smaller colonies ranging from 5 to 40+ polyps, what I’m looking for are any interesting soft corals (zoos, rics, clams etc) for trade.
Thanks>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jim K
