I have a space in my sump for a refugium. But the flow through it is too fast. Any idea's on how to slow it down?

The turnover rate is dictated by two things, flowrate and volume. If you want to reduce this, you'll have to get a bigger sump, reduce your return pump flowrate, or partition the sump and divert some of the water from the overflow past the section that contains the refugium. And I guess another alternative is to add a second connected sump, again such that most of the water doesn't enter the one that contains the refugium.

get a small piece of acrylic and cover most of the flow up then just let a little by thereby slowing down your flow
