James, what is your heater set at? Should be about 80. And what are you nitrates, nitrites and ammonia at? Have you been adding freshwater when it evaporates? All these things cause stress, which could cause Ich. Also if you are adding anything like Natu-reef alkalinty(bad) or some other strong additives without testing that would cause it. Definitly. What are your Alk parameters and PH? Steve.

Steve..I had an ich outbreak 3 weeks ago after adding a yellow tang to my tank. I used a product by Red Sea called "KICK ICH". I followed the instructions to a "T", and it seems to have cured the problem. I did not lose any fish, or inverts. You do have to shut your skimmer down, and remove any carbon used in your filter. The product takes almost 2 weeks to complete its cycle, adding the meds on different days per the instructions...Good luck!! Alan

Also...after doing some reading, I started to feed some garlic to my fish...People have different opinions about the effectiveness of garlic to boost imune systems, but I figured it could not hurt, and like I said I did not lose any fish during the outbreak....

well garlic worked for me!
Sandman,
Don't break out the champagne just yet :( , it's typical for the first outbreak to mysteriously vanish only to have the infestation come back even worse in a few weeks. Here a reference to some information about ick and its treatment.

Garlic has worked fpr me on many occasions. In fact, I have a clown I am treating now, and after only day of garlic soaked brine shrimp (which the fish go NUTS for), he is almost ich free. I am so cofident that Ich works as long as the tank itself is healthy, that I no longe get overly concerned about ich, i just feed em' an it goes away. Sorry purist guys, but in the past two and a half years I have had 4 fish get ich, and in every case the garlic cure worked like magic.
