BLUESMAN
02/28/2004, 08:35 PM
FYI......PROP will hold another auction this coming Saturday, March 6th, at 2pm. We will host it the normal place(Round Table Pizza @ Ray/Rural). The auction should be over by 4pm...let's hope!
Please all sellers post your items here with pics, if possible. I would also like to ask those sellers to also PM me with your items and opening bid(if any). Remember first to post, first to sell.
If anyone has a special request, please post those items here. Someone local probably has what you are looking for.
I hope to see many past reefers and new people too!

I won't be bringing anything to auction, but the SPS frags (microthalmus) I offered are all doing fine. I will bring them on Saturday. On the couple that I kept and mounted, a few tips are already starting to turn powder blue again - and these guys went thru some serious stress.

BTW if anyone is looking for an SPS with some seriously cool growth patterns - I got a Robusta and it's really cool. Looks like Medusa's head.

Aaron

I could use some hermits and small snails

Fliger, The robusta is on my list of " Igottagetthata"! What color is yours?

Fliger
03/01/2004, 05:52 PM
It is red/blue/purple. Hard to tell just yet, I'm sure it will brown up a little bit - but it looks as good as this pic for now. This pic doesn't really do justice to the swirly patterns of the branches, plus the tips are actually more purple in real life.

http://www.reefermadness.us/RMD02200051.htm

BTW this was a replacement for the Microthalmus that RTN'd in the last shipping fiasco, the same one I'm giving the frags away from. I kept 2 for myself, I want to put one under 250W 13k DE, and one under 400W 20K to see how they grow. It was super beautiful in the pic off the website.

Sometimes you can get them in the clearance section of reefermadness.us for really good prices. Under Hand Picked.

I'll have a few nice SPS frags available for auction...

Probably some a. saramentosa, real purple digi, two different a. millepora, a. cerealis, maybe some cap and could be a thing or two additional.
I'll try and take some pics and post before the auction, if not I'll bring pics to the auction so you can see what you are getting.

Ooh, another thing I'd like to see there is a BTA, I've been told by a few people that a BTA would be fine under my lighting (110w PCs) and my tank is 14 months old and stable. I will soon be adding more lighting too, so If its not happy it will be by end of april.

BLUESMAN
03/02/2004, 07:01 PM
This is off topic but.....110w of pc lightinging is NOT enough for a BTA.....I will be bringing a Flower anemone that would be happy with your lighting.

I will bring her to the PROP auction, I'll let you both decide who wants her. The Flower anemone is typical brown/orange colored, rather large and not a "normal" clown hoster. However I have had good luck with Saddleback(polymus) clowns hosting in them. The flower anemones do not require such strong lighting as a Bubble Tipped anemone or a Frogspawn. Clowns have been known to host in odder corals, i.e. xenia, toadstool, bubble corals, torches and hammers.

Since I've never been to your auction before, could you please give me a little advance info?

Is it run like an ordinary auction with bidding? If there a buyer's premium? Is there a fee to bid? Is cash an acceptable payment method? Do we bring our own containers to carry things home in? Do I have to be a member of any club?

Thanks for your willingness to explain the system to a newbie.

Hi Seashel,
welcome to RC, I will be happy to answer some of your questions.
It is like an ordinary auction. There is a wana be auctioneer. lol. We just put our hands up if we want to bid on an item.
There is no fee to bid. Just bid away. Cash only, no checks
There is no buyers premium. Not sure exatly what that is, maybe I am wrong?
No you dont have to be a member of the club, come one come all.
Most things auctioned are allready in zip lock bags, but it would be a good idea to bring a cooler incase you buy some things. That way its easy to carry it all home.

BLUESMAN
03/03/2004, 09:32 PM
Thanks "nemo" for clearing that up. It's a informal auction where most of us are drinking beer and enjoying the hobby. You are sure to have a good time. Bringing a cooler is a good idea..because almost everyone buys something here! No worry it's not like "E-bay"..items go very cheap.

An most important bring lots of cash! I guarantee you will go home with twice what you intended to buy as the prices and the quality cannot be beat! Just ask me I know firsthand. I am now supporting 4 reef tanks and 2 community tanks with another 4 setting in my garage right now! There are some very good aquarists here in the Valley dedicated to their livestock and some of us have been lucky enough to purchase a few frags of their prized specimens.

I want to thank everyone for attending this month's auction. It was a bit crazy and disorganized, we started a new registration and bidding/lot program, that will be smoother next month. We will post more information on auction rules and selling policy soon. I, myself, was late to the auction because of the insane I-10 freeway..I do apologize for starting late. Please remember that we are still new at this auction program and are trying hard to make as smooth as possible, there will be bumbs on the way!

Thanks for all who came! Maybe we do need a larger room!

I had a good time, I like what I ended up with.

I got some button pulyps, I beleive from bluesman, they're the greenish ones, a piece of cabbage leather, and some lime green zoos.

I do have one question, on the cabbage leather, not sure who brought it, but does it open up more than how they were at the auction, or is that the actual size, and how fast does it grow, cause it is cool looking.

I also have a suggestion about the auction, the bidding process will go smoother if ONE of multiple items are auctioned off at a time. It will take a little longer, but it is less confusing, and that way the sellers will possibly get closer to what they wanted to get for their items.

BLUESMAN
03/07/2004, 06:35 AM
The cabbage frag is about 1/4 of it's size . It does grow very quickly. I would either glue it to a lo-med flow, lo-med light area. I cut very large pieces.

Blues...
I have a few thoughts that might make things run smoother and go quicker:

1) Assign "permenant" bidding numbers.

2) Assign "permenant" seller numbers.

3) Online seller sheet. Since the seller will have an assigned & permenant number, this will allow the sellers to add/remove items from the list at will. This could be a web page. I've designed things like this before. Not too difficult.

-- Using 1 & 2 makes it so you will not need to hand out numbers (and keep track) each time?

to keep it fair... just randomize the order in which each seller gets to sell his/her items. if they are not at the location (at the meeting) when it is thier "turn" they get dropped to the end of the seller's list for that day.

just some thoughts

I totally agree about keeping the assigned #.s saves having to reissue them next time. And you will have a permanant record of each persons by that way. Just keep them by #.
I also like the idea of randomizing the sellers.
Also, if some things that were going to brought cant be, to mention that sooner.
I would also like to see everything set out for inspection before the auction with a # on the bag/box so that anyone intereset knows what it is when it comes up.
Trying to hear the auctioneer over allot of talking is very difficult.
Also, if anyone wants to talk about non auction things during the auction. They need to go to the other room.
Allot of talking in the background sure does hurt the auction.

We will be improving the auctions in the future. I like the "same bidder #'s" every time. We will have to rethink the "lot/seller #". It does make sense to have the same bidder # as the lot/seller #. But I think that it would only be fair to have the people who post first given the opportunity to have their items sold first. But I am flexible on that. The issue with displaying all the items is a little harder, as most of the items are live and must be kept as cool/warm as possible. Here's a idea...if everyone could take a overall picture of their tank write the item numbers on that pic for all to see?? Of course feel free to take individual pictures of each item. I think we might acually have to start these auctions either at 3pm, so we have a hour preview/sign up or have the preview at 1pm.....that's sounds very early. I am also going to state that check outs of sold items be done either at the half time break or at the end, even I get overwhelmed!! Keep the ideas coming......I'm always willing to listen!

I just wanted to say I had a good time and meet some interesting people. Blue The Tomato Clown is doing fine and has taking a spot in the tank for herself. I agree on too much background noise to hear what was for sale. Having the same number for everyone is a great idea and would save you alot of time in that respect. The room was a little small and the AC needed to be turned on earlier. Paying for items at the breaks is also a good idea because I needed to leave to get that Clown out of the little bag. Next time I will bering some spare saltwater.
Thanks again for the good time
