I've always wanted to do some SCUBA diving, but it just seems like a really expensive hobby! My school actually offers SCUBA lessons, but is it worth learning at school? I am also really curious about a typical cost to dive... as for dive sites, probably just locally for now since I'm still a poor college student

Will be a great experience though!

The biggest costs are the course and the gear. If you can take a course through your school it is probably a good deal to take advantage off. Equipment can run you several hundred or more. A good way to pick up equipment cheap is during the winter when many shops will sell the last seasons rental gear really cheap. This could be a good way to pick up good gear without spending big bucks.

After all that is dealt with the cost of actually diving can be really cheap. If shore diving locally it is just the cost of your air fill, usually around $4. Travel and boat diving can be considerably more of course ;)
