View Full Version : brown (rust) algea - when will it stop???

tank- 14 ga. 2 mos. old, 20 pds. of fuji, prism skimmer, rio 600 for water movement and 64 watts of lights. i have been exp. rust algea on glass and substate for approx. 3 weeks now and wondering how others exp. have been. I also have a cleanup crew which consists of 5 snails, 2 reg leggies and a emerald crab.
I am using RO water also. Will it ever end????? ANy wayas to excellerate this process?

Your problem is diatoms. It will run its course. It does look ugly, just scrap it off the glass, and slowly it will pass. Then you will have the horrible green stuff.... then your tank will be in good running order. Dont worry, it just takes a lil time. (Annoying aint it?) I hope this helps.
