Hey,

I was reading all these threads about sexing banggai's, so i figured i would get a site together that has pictures of banggai's with the sexes known FOR SURE, so people can make observations for themselves. So if you have any pictures post em here or email me at hornys@telusplanet.net thanks...

I can try to take some close-ups if you would like. What angles would be best?

Hey,

Sounds great...more then likely it would be best to have a side shot. But any shot would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the pics....

I noticed your female has a very long banner fin, and the male seems to be shorter. I guess its not the greatest indicator. Keep the pics comming everyone.

The banner fin on the male was nipped :(

spike:
As i have mentioned in a few articles, the second dorsal or "banner fin" is not a good indicator as it it often nipped off by tankmates.
Right now my best guess indicator towrds sexing is the body shape which i outline in those two posts i sent you at reef.org.
I have read or been sent probably 100 different methods of determining sex. Some as silly as counting spots on pectoral fins, to counting rays on anal fins. To counting scales behind the eye(males have more scales from the eye to the gill slit????) to others mentioning some sort of grunting in males (both sexes grunt).
regardless, Like yourself I'm still looking

Guy--great photos-can I download them for possible use on my site??

Keep up the good work

Absolutely! I think these fish are becomig endangered and I'll do what I can to help. You have been a wonderful source of information and I greatly appreciate it! Can you credit me for the Photo's please? "Photo by Guy Comstock" is more than adequate.

The female pic isn't perfect... as you can see the male isn't carrying eggs so the female won't set still for even a second...
