I am looking for the best price on a 200G Mix bucket of Reef Crystals. it's sold here for $60.00 + tax. I was just curious if I could get it in Knoxville any cheaper. I will be coming to knoxville soon, so it wouldn't be a problem to pick it up. Thanks in advance.

Sir Knight

Here is a idea. Get the club to do a group buy on salt and I can give you the name of a company that you can get KENT salt 200 gallon mix for $35.99 with free shipping. You would need to buy 36 buckets that's buy two get one for 11.98 compared to local prices. If you buy three will you can do the math. Think how much money you can save that way. It really doesn't take up that much room to store 2 or 3 buckets of salt.

Hope this helps

I'll only need like 2-3 buckets. I dont know if we can fill the 36 bucket order.

llpoolej
02/09/2004, 03:46 PM
I bet we can, I would want a couple of buckets. That would keep me in salt for awhile.

Maybe have someone in charge of being emailed with who wants salt. Make a post with the header "Reef crystals $36 a bucket, email me if you want some!" and I bet there would be alot of emails. Or who knows :)

Well, lets see, I need 2 just to fill the tank, and 8 more to run me a year. Nope, cant afford that right now. I'm in for 4 though and if we needed the "last 2" to meet the goal I could probably do that.

Bddizzzy
02/09/2004, 08:18 PM
I could use 2. It would be worth the trip, or if I could pick them up at a meeting?

EvilMel
02/09/2004, 09:52 PM
Ok I could take 3.

So at a maximum we have:
Donny = 3
Art = ?
Don = 4
Julie = 2
Mel = 3
Kenneth = 2

If Art takes 2 that's 16. I'll email Graham, Mike, Gould and see if they want any buckets. Anyone know of anyone else? Maybe we should send out a club email about it?

Has anyone sent any emails to RC sponsers to see what they will offer in the event we fall short of our goal? I started to, but thought maybe it should come from an officer of the club to be more "official". Pet solutions sells the kent and reef crystals for $41 I'm not sure if the free shipping on +$275 applies after reading their shipping info. That was just the first sponser I clicked on...

I might be able to get our trucking company to receive it at their whse if the supplier wants to drop ship it. We'd have to get all at once within a day or 2 to limit the hastle of the whse.

I'll send an e-mail (spam) to the reefers in my e-mail list.

Let me know if you don't receive this e-mail this evening, after 9 pm, 2-10-04. You will need to be added to my spam list.

EvilMel

Ok so that's 18 total.

Don: Joe knows of a place that we can get Kent salt for 35.99 per bucket with free shipping (if we buy 36).

So he has emailed me the info and as soon as we get people to agree to buy the salt, it should happen.

Oh and I need to get everyone's money first. That's a HUGE bill for me to handle by myself. I'll let you know when it's time. I am going to go message the Tennessee Reefers.

EvilMel
02/10/2004, 10:59 PM
Ok I put the question to the Tennessee Reefers too.

I told them I'd bring some of the buckets to Cookeville. I will just get someone with a truck to bring the rest of the buckets with me, if we actually get enough buckets spoken for and I get everyone's money.

Sir Knight
02/11/2004, 02:27 PM
Hey Mel,
Now you do know that you will also have to unload the buckets from the truck. If remember correctly that is about 1600 lbs. I hope Brent is going to be home the day of delivery. I think each bucket is about 45lbs. But 36 buckets of salt = $1295.64.
:thumbsup:

Kennetht
02/11/2004, 03:55 PM

EvilMel
02/11/2004, 08:52 PM

I still can't cover $1296 up front!

Hmm, I didn't consider that we'd have to unload it ourselves from the truck. Joe do you know if they have saturday delivery? Because then we could just get a bunch of reef members to be here for it.

Thanks for agreeing to prepay you guys. I think we are up to 32 buckets!

Sir Knight
02/11/2004, 09:37 PM
Mel,
I wouldn't go there with a Saturday delivery. This will be shipped via a cargo company BIG $$$$ if they even will do it :eek2: :eek1: . I think Kenneth and Don said that the salt could be delivered to their companies warehouse. That would be the way to go or just get one or two of the guys that are ordering to help unload ;) :D

EvilMel

imsqueak
02/11/2004, 11:42 PM
Well, my whse is in Alcoa~at the airport. I have no problem with Kenneth getting it for us either. Especially because I have to ask for a favor from our trucker (he REALLY wouldnt mind if we just get it all at once and not have individuals coming here and there requiring him to keep track of it). I dont have a truck to load it ALL in myself and I dont have room to store it all in my garage! He wouldnt mind it sitting on the dock for a day or two so a couple of us could probably meet there after it arrives and load up; maybe have 3-4 people by region and others can come to their house to get theirs.

However, I vote for Kenneth if it fits his schedule of coming down to Knox & fits the salt delivery schedule, maybe we can plan it to coincide with the next meeting. Or me, if Kenneth thinks if wont fit his schedule or if redistribution will be a problem.

Not many people have pallet rates with common carriers unless it's a local haul. But it is possible... Where's this stuff coming from?

Sir Knight
02/13/2004, 10:15 PM
Don,
It has nothing to do with the carrier it has to do with the supplier
When I ordered I ordered by the pallet either 1 or 2 .That 's why they need to require.
It is dropped shipped from Kent. I think Ohio. The supplier is in CA.

imsqueak
02/13/2004, 10:40 PM
I would think the only variable the supplier has to consider is the cost of transportation; since it's a built in cost of the product (under the bulk rate buy situation). As for supply/product: 50 is better than 36 unless you have a per pallet rate with the trucker. But if it costs him $100/plt, then the half pallets eats into his profits because it's still counted as a plt. Transportation is what I do for a living... so this is the way my brain works.

Anyhow, we'll see what he says. We're almost there without the 13 from RDU.

I talked to another friend 2 doors down from work who said it would be cool if we delivered there if the timing doesnt work out with Kenneth. He only has a pallet jack and dock plate but I'd think it wouldnt be that hard to pull a pallet off the back of the truck on a pallet jack.

Sir Knight
02/13/2004, 11:29 PM
Don,
I don't know the answer about the salt.

Maybe Mel made the call today and has the answer.

It maybe a good idea to have it delivered to your place as 36 buckets will be 2232 ( a little over a ton), 72 buckets will be about 4464 lbs. That is a lot for a pickup to haul

I don't think you will have a problem with a pallet jack.
I unloaded two pallets by hand (72). When I had it delivered they used a tractor trailer (full screw). The driver had a pallet jack and pulled the pallets to the end of the trailer. Then he handed the buckets to me, well you can figure out the rest.

Haven't seen any updates on the stand how is that coming along?

:beer:

No, ...you do know about the salt, you're the man that hooked us up. Thanks!

I say lets do it. I'll go in for an extra 1-2 and if the others that say they can do it will kick in, we can do it now. Maybe, by the time others find out, those that dont need them can sell their spares to them.

Hey so we are not at two pallets. I was including the reef down under in my count because he had emailed Mike and me saying he wanted 10-13. But now he's just going to get his own pallet (probably alot better for him anyways).

So now we are down to 23 I think, maybe 24.

What am I supposed to call someone about?

I think the point is moot now since we don't even have enough buckets spoken for to get 1 pallet.

I will recount and see but I think we are at 23-24.
Mel
ps this is disappointing, I thought we almost had it.

EvilMel
02/14/2004, 09:50 AM

yelloboyviet (Donny) = 3
jpoole (Julie) = 2

Bdizzy (Brian) = 2
Mel = 3
awcurl (Art) = 2
Easttn = 2
Runner (Scott) = 1
Commiphora (Dave) = 1
Seased (David) = 1
Fry-man (Eric) = 2
That makes 25.
So we still need people to get 11 more.

The Tennessee Reefers thing did not work out.

So we will have to see.

I don't know how to do the paypal thing, nor do I really want to. I guess it would be a good idea if I learned though since I seem to be handling the group orders (2nd time in a row) and since that sounds like the job of a club treasurer.

Let me check into it.

Ok so with Don's 5 (thanks btw Don) and Matt's 6 (thanks alot Matt that's great) and Donny's dropping to 1, we have 33 buckets total!

Only 3 more, guys!

I'll check into the paypal thing.

llpoolej
02/15/2004, 12:56 PM
if it helps, paypal is super easy and you just have it moved into your account with a click of the mouse. You wouldn't have to drive to the bank or handle a bunch of checks/cash.

The downfall is that it has a small charge with it(it would come out to be about $1-2 per $35. That would have to be added in to the money you collect so you don't end up paying the charge Or you could have a caveat that only bank account transfers are allowed, and it is free.

here is the fee schedule

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees

EvilMel
02/15/2004, 01:29 PM
Ok I did it. I set up a paypal account.

The only thing is that I set it up with a personal premier type so that I could accept both credit cards and bank transfers. So if you pay me through paypal, add an extra $1.04 for each bucket plus $0.30 per payment.

SO if you buy 2 buckets at $35.99 it's:
$71.98 + $2.08 + $0.30 = $74.36.

Or if you live near me or just want to come by and give me a check you can do that too (i.e. Donny and Matt who are on campus near me all the time).

We still need 3 more buckets to be spoken for btw.

ONLY 3!

To make it even easier/harder, Mel, you can send a request for money

Go to your paypal, sign in and go to the "request money" tab. I think most everyone's emails are on the club site. Type in the email addresses in the box given and it will blast it out with instructions on how to do it.

That way, your email will only go out to those participating in this.

I know this is a mood point but, I just got off the phone with the vendor. What he said was if you order more than a pallet's worth of salt they will still honor free shipping. They did ask to keep it in a 6 lot format if possible. Example 42 or 48, or 54, etc.

I have just been reading this post and you guy's and Ladies are still short 3 buckets for a pallet. It would be a shame to not be able to get this deal because of 3 buckets 35.99 each vs. $60.00 each. There has to be a couple more people that can use salt at this price!

If I didn't have 10 buckets I would have jumped on this one myself. Hopefully when I need salt again this group buy thing will happen again:)

I don't buy clothes, so that really isn't fair to add in :) I am not much of a clothes shopper.

Thankfully, I do the bills, and hubby doesn't see what we spend. He wouldn't freak, but it is good fodder for spending more money on his boat. So, I keep my spending quiet. So we don't OVER spend.

It may not be as much as our food bill, but it is a short month and I have only been twice, so it might be!
