Feb Meeting, I'll host

I figured I would start off a new thread because I will offer to host. It would be either Feb 21st or 28th both are a Saturday. I could possibly do the 20th which is a Friday too, but not sure. Let me know, I have not picked a time or anything, not sure if earlier or later is better.

OK, for this meeting I would like to have an agenda.

Lets start with this:

1 - General discussion
I want to start with general discussion to give everyone who is coming the chance to come in, also to give Ross and Russ some ziti time :p


2 - Poll results
We will go over the business cards (Bob, maybe you could bring a demo of what you were talking about for the back) as well as club organization, should we start another online poll for necessary positions. I want the meeting to be fun so if the organization discussion gets heated, we will save it for online chat and not my house :p

3 - Discounts for Members at LFS
We will go over "membership" and how to provide the LFS with an accurate list of club members who are entitled to discounts.

I thought the Idea was to get these cards issued at the meeting?
At the very least everyone there have them print and sign there names so I can laminate them....
It takes time to cut them out so I might not get them all done at the meeting.

Do we need to be concerned about forged cards or is that being too paranoid? :rolleyes: We had talked about having a president sig. line or some type of authentication seal in the other thread. What's the likelihood, if any, that a non-member would duplicate a card?

Good point Tom. Maybe we bring that up at the meeting and possibly come up with some ideas to authenticate the card. (Remmber the stickers that I had in the other thread?)

When I was in construction, the Union used to punch our membership cards with a unique punch so that they could verify your dues were up to date and your card was valid when you went on a job. Maybe put a place on them with the years 04-06 and punch them out?

The only way it could be forged was if a member gave someone there card to scan and make a copy of. Or they could take a copy off the Internet.....
Ian or Ross can you remove the pic of the winning card too avoid this.
The big picture what will someone gain by copying the card? 10% off at the LFS. I don't see this being a big issue right now.
Lets just go with what we have till we come up with an idea. Punch of some kind would be a good way. A signature can be copied and is the LFS really going to study the name and signature.

Since club organization was approved by the poll (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=303579) , I think that we should set a few minutes aside at the meeting (with Ian's approval of course) to have an open discussion and to toss some ideas around, particularly how many and what positions to have, and then when to begin and end the voting period. After positions are decided upon, we can start a "new" thread here to post what we all come up with and to accept nominations. If you can't make the meeting and have something that you'd like to add to this discussion then maybe you can post your ideas in this forum or give them to someone who will be in attendance. Make sense?

I actually know that slapnuts(Mark) wants to come to this meeting. He has expressed that interest to someone I know. Although I feel, at this stage of the BS session going on, that may not be a good idea. It is Ian's get together, his decision.

Sorry guys, I do chemicals, not structures-they only hire chemical engineers to do structural stuff when they want it to fall down (like roller coasters!)-if I even look at a structure it falls down. So, I could do it, but I won't be one of the people trusting the calculation! Now, if you want to know the chemical compostion of the carpet and how it's made, that's entirely a different story-and much more boring to normal people!
