Since we have been discussing drilling tanks and such, does anyone know why a reef tank could not have glass on all sides except the back? If the back were acrylic you could drill the heck out of the thing with cheap tools. I was thinking about this for say the usual tank of 6 feet or less.

From what I've read, the silicone has a molecular bond with glass but doesnt with acrylic. I wonder if you could use like an L bracket or something to use on the corners. Since the'd be in the back you'd only see the inch or two on the side panels. Lower and longer tank design would be in order to keep the pressure down.

That's an interesting concept Mike.

I interested to check this out some more, let you know what I find.

Hey Mike,
I would post this question in the DIY or the Advanced Topics forum
and get them to help. I have heard and used tanks that were fiberglass with acrylic viewing area, wood tanks with glass. But I have never heard of what you are suggesting Glass with acrylic. Post it there and please let us know what they have to say
