Hi Frank,
You helped me identify my little predator as a Dusky Jawfish (thanks). My question, now, is this fish bad news for a reef tank with a live sand bed? I want to have all the little creatures around that help add to the needed diversity to help to maintain somewhat of a balanced micro-ecosystem and was wondering if this fish would inhibit that goal? I really haven't actually seen him eat any of my tank inhabitants, but assume he has. He also eats some flake food that drifts his way and I feed him peices of silversides a few times a week - I found out he loves the silversides when a piece I was feeding my anemone drifted his way. I also am considering purchasing some small shrimp, as a necessity, to help control some aiptasia I have, and am afraid he will make expensive meals of them.

Hi...you've tracked me down.......
Well I'll give you both sides of the answer, and let you decide.
So...my friend has one of these fish in his reef for about 1 yr. It digs everywhere and stirs up the sand. It also roots around looking for sand critters, but the majorities of its time is spent hanging out waiting for mysis shrimp and meaty food to float by. So in this case, the jawfish is probably not great, but not too destrcutive..

Now the otherside

So I really can't tell you eitherway. if you read the Dr Ron thread (the first one) i would suggest to you that MAYBE or No is the correct answer
Your call
Hope this helps
