MBB, sorry no pix; I've found thru the yrs. that they'll strive if given frozen "Angel food" which contains sponge which is their natural fare,Bob

I've have had one for 2 plus years. He's presently changing to adult coloration. He's hand feed and eats like a pig. Not a good fish for a reef, he likes his corals. If your looking for one let me know we might be able to work it out.

I still thinking about getting a tank you think it would grow good in a 120? any one had a asfur angel and a imperator, how long after would you recommend putting a angel in the tank about 4 months?

Couldn't agree more. My guy is just now returning to perfect coloration after I started feeding frozen angel formula a couple of months back. Before that, I was feeding everything but that and his coloration went to crap.

Here's my emp:

Imperator Angel housed in a 450 gallon system, SPS and clams dominated reef. Tank mates: Pair of Lyretail Angels, Golden Dwarf Angel and a Yellow Eyed Kole Tang.

Another one. He measures approximately 6" and shows almost full adult coloration/pattern.

Any problems with nipping at corals?

Mine currently doesn't nip anything. In the past I also had a few soft corals such as Xenia (which he completely eradicated) and a huge Spaghetti leather that he nipped. Except for the Xenia that didn't make it, all other soft corals have since been moved to another tank. He doesn't touch my clams nor my stoney's.

Where you buy angle food, what has he nipped at except sps and did it do damage?

Over the years, I've had 3 Imperators without there ever being any SPS nipping. I'd gone awhile in between Imperators, forgot about my beautiful blue sponge being in my new set-up--well you know what happened when I introducted my new Imperator--he made short work of the sponge! Knotch up an expensive meal. BTW, I've never had problem with Imperators & Xeniias. Maybe luck or the "right" species of Xenia. The only LPS in my system is a lobophilia, which he leaves alone,Bob

My Imperator Angels have never nibbled on SPS or clams either. Just some soft corals and the Xenia. I was actually quite thrilled that it eradicated the Xenia :)

Off-course this is no guarantee that yours won't nibble on clams and SPS/LPS corals. I've heard and seen horror stories.

You can see mine here:
http://www.freewebs.com/reefdom/fish.htm
The first pic shows him in september, and his adult colouration is getting more and more prominent. The last picture shows him shortly after I got him in full juvenile colouration. You can see how small he was by the size of the aiptasia :) He is now about 4.5-5" maybe. I can't find the angel food stuff in my neck of the woods, so he eats flake, frozen, P.E Mysis like the rest of them, and he goes after nori like crazy. My tank is all sps and a couple clams, never touched a thing.

I cannot say how awesome you tank looks now!!! What are all the fish in there and how many lbs of live rock is in there. Keep up the terrific work!!!!!!

Thanks Mrbeachbum2. :)
The pics are 6 months old or more, I need to update the page.

Fish Are as you see on the fish page: naso, sailfin, maroon clown, emperor angel, bangaii and 1 chromi. Not many in the tank.
My guess would be about 250 lbs of rock or so.

I thought you could not keep angel fish more than one per tank? Is yours an exception to the rule...but mainly the theory is they dont go together? Im trying to figure this out, I just bought an Emporer Angel.

with over 400 gallons there is plenty of room for them to roam so shouldnt be a problem for him

I see...what about a 250? Is that still too small to house more than one angel? Anyone with experiences of that size.

Exactly. Outside of the seldom chasing (usually during feeding), there is 0 aggression between the fish. No nipped fins, bites, etc...

i also have been interest in keeping an Emperor angel. My only problem is that every book that i read says that they will eat clam mantles does anyone else agree with no nipping at them at all?

As far as multi angels to a tank, I never had a problem with my 180 ( 4 angels) and I sure don't have a problem in my new tank.

Now in the choice of a purple tang, pb tang, & an emperor which one would you add first to the tank?

Aged Salt

Try to place both tangs in your system at the same time. If you're only placing one tang + the Imperator, I personally don't feel you'll have a problem with which one goes in first--The Imperator will leave the others alone unless you already have a like species present,Bob
