Today was the finish day for Mike's tank and couldn't wait to share it with you guys. The tank is a little cloudy from the new sand. I should have the detail of the system in different project that I'm working on. This is 120 gallon tank and more fish and corals to be added soon. Rocks mix if Fiji, Tonga, Marshal Island, Jamaica. There are tons of frags of different color zo's in the tank (zooqi zo's) :D I also should have pictures of sea horses tank that I setup today in his house soon. http://www.zooqi.com/mike1.jpg

Most excellent work, Mo. They might not be showing through the cloudiness, but are there tunnels for the fish to swim through? I'm assuming there are. That looks like about 300 pounds of LR, what are you using for current within the tank? What's the turnover, etc, etc, SPEC's man, we need SPECS! (LOL). Skimmer? Lights? etc.

Thanks for sharing. We can all learn from the setup.

Nice work Mo!

Maybe Mr. Mussina would like to attend the swap to fill in some of those holes.

Seriously...it looks really good.

Thank you guys. The stand and hood are my brother in law's job. The side opens and the two doors in front open too. The side doors in the stand open from inside they are removable too. The trim in the back goes a little far it to hide the pipes from the side view and to let the air out. If I get a chance I will go down tomorrow and take some more pictures. I'm working on the whole detail of the project too.

Hi Mo,

Looks great!..

Are those closed loop returns in the back (the angled 3/4" PVC pipes?)

I'm soon ready to fire up my new tank.. We're counting on the TANGS to eat the grape caulerpa, which is out of control!

Do you have the caulerpa in the display tank? That stuff can really take over. I'd be removing as much as possible manually and trying to get it confined to a refugium, or even a seperate tank to grow it as food. My tangs love caulerpa in general, but won't touch grape. Probably just my tangs.

Hi Tag,

Yup.. it's in my 75.. I'm hoping it's just a personal preference among several tangs

You might want to watch giving them an unending food supply like that. More food = more waste, right?

Actually, it's pretty much an even trade. They eat it and do "process" it, but the caulerpa takes up the nutrients (just like fertilizer). That's why it's grown in refugia and then trimmings thrown out - to export the nutrients it's used. The problem it can pose in a display tank is just plain taking over the LR and squeezing out the corals.

Right now I feel that way.. I'm hoping the tang's appetite can exceed the speed the algae can grow! either that, or else the Algae blenny's .

Hey, Mo,

what's Mike got for livestock?

There is still not much livestock in the tank except what is in the picture and yellow tangs, lots of snails, hermit crabs. The two pieces that are sticking out are for close loop and soon to be hided. The way that the stand was built it could not take any regular sump so I have built a sump out of a 30 breeder and modified it to the tank's need. The sump is temporarly there and I'm working on another one that will replace that one. The side doors help slide the one that is on it out and put a new one. You guys will be able to see step by step on how the whole system was put together.

I love these little guys. They have great personalities and after they get comfortable in the tank they leave little "kiss marks" all over the glass. The one in my 120 does have an affinity to ending up in the DIY built-in overflow, so I have to keep an eye on him.

I'm looking forward to getting to know ours.. ZOOQI is baby sitting the livestock which came from a purchase I made some time ago.(good old Mo, he's had the fish longer than I ever did!!!)

I'll have to watch that he doesn't get into the overflow - maybe I'll put a mesh on the top.

A wide gapped mesh around the edge of the overflow, that stands up vertically, works pretty well. It's not blenny-proof, but it does help. It also needs to be cleaned fairly often, to clear off the algae.
