How do I make one?

Any Image, it has to be resized.

"the maximum size of your custom image is 150 by 150 pixels or 8192 bytes"

Go to MY RC, Edit Options, Change Avatar.
You can upload, or point it to a file on the net.

To have your own/custom avatar, shouldn't you have to have at least 100 posts?

you can choose one of the standard avatars just not upload your own.

Yeah, you gotta have 100 posts before that "option" becomes available to do. I tried doing one, but have had a hard time making the avatar fit within the framework of the size they want..,
