View Full Version : Does my Macrodactyla doreensis have athlete's foot?

My long tentacle anemone has what looks like a fungus growing on the bottom of its foot. The "fungus" is a white, billowy, frilly growth. It seems to increase and decrease over the course of the day. Sometimes there are spotted, grey bladder-like bubbles as well. The LTA hasn't attached itself to anything nor has it burried its foot in the substrate and I'm wondering if this is why. My LFS said to dip it in a gallon of saltwater treated with 3 drops of iodine, then wash it off with freshwater. He says he does this with all of his new anemones. The guy has a good reputation so I tried it. It seemed to reduce the fungus somewhat, but it didn't eliminate it. The anemone seems to be a little happier though. He was deflated this morning, but now he's much better looking.

Is this iodine dip common? How long should I have left the anemone in it? How often can I repeat it if necessary?

TIA,

Steve
