My place is pretty small. Nevertheless, I'm interested in hosting Jan meeting.

Who is interested? Maybe we can have a club sponsered swap meet. Frags, used equipment, fish..whatever. If interested start posting what frags and equipment you have and lets see what type of interest there is.

I have sps frags-colored
Anybody looking for some equipment? Lights? Skimmer?

Hot mag canister filter, aquaclear filter, ice probe cooler (use to make a chiller, good for up to 55 gallon to pull down temp 2-4 degrees)

Sounds great! Any ideas of a date? Tuesday nights seem to work for folks. I might have a few frags for trade myself. My Monti digitata grows like a weed.

Looking forward to seeing folks again.

Happy Holidays and see ya all next year!

I'm just barely getting started in the hobby... I have a 55g tank that I'm acquiring some equipment for. Just got a Remora Pro with Mag3, just purchased a 20gal setup for some LR cycling, I need some powerheads for both the LR tank and for my FOWLR 55g tank. I'd love to sit in and listen to what you guys have to say. I'm definitely a newbie, but I've been reading up and doing some research. Make sure that you guys let me know when you meet. I work at the Longhorn Steakhouse, so schedules are iffy, but if given with ample time I can get some time off. THANKS ALL!

ESOX, you may have been the one that helped me today get the 20gal setup and referred me to the site.

SHOmuchFUn,

How many and what size powerheads are you looking for?

How about Tues Jan 6??? (for the meeting at my place?)

I'm going to need about 4 powerheads... I'll need a couple for my 20 gallon LR cycle tank and I'm going to need a couple larger ones for my 55 gallon FOWLR (maybe reef depending on how crazy I go on lighting). I've heard good things about maxijets. Maybe a couple 1200s for the 55 gallon. One 1200 may work for the 20gallon too. Probably make a big whirlpool :D

I just ordered a Remora Pro with a Mag3 for the 55gallon. Too bad the Remora doesn't make any current :\

Was also thinking of investing in a Fluval 404 canister for the 55 gallon and moving my emperor over to the 20gallon tank. Will definitely work better than the whisper that came with the 20gallon, but don't know if it's necessary. If I buy enough LR for the 55gallon, I may not even mess with a canister. Just another cost and definitely more maintenance.

As for January 6th, I'll see what I can do. It's probably not a very good time for me. I'll see if anyone can change shifts with me if I DO have to work.

If you have live rock in the tank, don't worry about a canister filter.

I'm sure some one in this club has some things you need!

Do you have any pics of your "prop" tank? I'm thinking of just cycling water and LR in the 20 gallon that I have and siphoning out some water from the 20 gallon into the 55 as needed, basically a manual sump.

Any suggestions of what I should put in it? Just LR and a bag of LS? Should I put anything living in it?

Brad A.
12/23/2003, 03:26 PM
I don't understand? Are you asking what to put in the sump or prop tank?

In my sump, I have the skimmer, return pump and filter bag. I no longer put rock or algae in the sump as I found it doesn't help anything other than clutter the crap out of my sump!

My prop tank is a 20 g with a 175 metal hallide and a cheap piece of crap sea clone skimmer that hardly is run. Oh and one power head. This prop tank (AKA the toliet) grows acros and rose anemone's) Although the acros often turn brown.

For equipment I've got:

3 foot All Glass hood with 2 55W power compacts.

3 PowerSweep powerheads; 2 large and 1 small.

EcoSystem 40 hang-on back filtration system.

I can frag the following if anyone is interested:

Candycane/Caulastrea that is turquoise blue under high light.

Green with Purple Rim Montipora capricornis

Green with White Polyps Montipora capricornis

Orange Fringe with Green and Yellow Center Zooanthids

I want to sell these rather than trade, unless you've got some really nice sps or zooanthids. PM me for prices on any of the above.

Damn Tom, wish your hood was for a 55gallon. I'd like to upgrade to a dual lighting pc system with 10000s and true actinics. The flourescents that came with the tank just aren't going to cut it I'm afraid.

I'll try and make it as well. Brad, sure could use one of those syringes.
SHO, IMHO maxi-jets are the way to go. However in a 55 I'd say 1200's are a bit much. I've got (2) 600s and a 1200 in my 55. There are times when I wish the 1200 was a 900.

It has'nt got that blue in my tank, but it has colored up much nicer than the first pic recently. It turns out I had the eggcrate on top of my tank the wrong side up:rolleyes:

howdy folks.

Recent transfer from UNH to UVM that decided to take a semester off. I run a drilled 75 gallon that i recently tore to shreds selling off all my LPS. I had planned to change to all SPS, but am considering if my system can actually pull it off.

Id like to go to the meeting on tuesday, but I wont be in town, unfortunatly. I hope you guys meet again soon after that.

Jan 6

I'll post directions as we get a little closer to Jan 6.

I want to get a final roll call in few days. I think most people will have a better idea as to whether they can go to the meeting after the holidays are over.

Hello All.
Hope everone had a joyful holiday season.

I think that it's agreat idea that we get a used equipment swap thing going on. I have a 55 with NO Perfecto stock lighting and wrought iron stand.
I also have A 250W single ended MH fixturewith 32W PC actinic and balast. I bought it for $220 I think and had expectations for using it, but never set it up. It also comes with two 250W ushio bulbs. one is new, the other i dont know how long it was used for.
Al, if you want that Argonite sand you have first dibs on it. i have ~60lbs of it.

I have a 55 gallon tank that I'm looking for some lighting for. I was going to do a 260watt setup (2 65watt 10ks and 2 65 watt actinics). Mogul, is your lighting setup a full hood for a 55 gallon (48") tank? or is it a retro kit? If it's a hood, I'm interested!

Would either of these setups be sufficient to provide a clown with a host anemone or carpet?

I was looking at the Coralife Aqualight that had the 4 65w bulbs, dual switches and fans, 2 10ks nd 2 actinics for like $180 on E-bay. I also have an add with a reply for the CSL 260 watt hood for $150 + S/H.

We may be getting off topic here, but forgive me.

SHOmuchFUN,

Its just a stock hood w/ a 40W NO bulb. It would be okay with a FO setup. I have the CSL 260W hood and I like it. with proper placement you can keep a many diffetent LPS, softies, zoos and shrooms.

Brad: I think I'm in for Tuesday the 6th. BTW any new rose anemones? Do any clownfish hang with them? Ed

PS Merry Christmas to all VT reefers!

I got rose anemones! Clowns live in them.

I have 4 rose anemones actually.

Still bummed out about your hell flight. That's one of the worst flying stories I have ever heard!

Hehehe!

Brad I might be interested in a rose if you have any to trade/purchase. Have to do more research I have stayed away from thinking about anenomes due to there poor survival rates in captivity but I know more than one person who are successfully keeping them and they are reproducing.

SHO- Patience is key with these tanks. You'll have your hands full quick enough. Anenomes usually need a tank that has been setup and stable for at the bare minimum six months.

The rose anemone that produced these clones has been in captivity for 13-15 years...under VHO and as such has produced alot of clones that are now here in the east and west. I brought it back to VT from out west this summer.

I have one left..$50 each. They go for $80-120 online plus shipping
