What are the ways that we can get the word out about places like Reef Central to newbies who have no clue this place exists? Or just informing people to read good books and or talk to others before they plunge into this awsome hobby. Not everyone has a computer or access to a computer. So, how does that newbie gain knowledge about keeping a saltwater aquarium? I see way too often, at places like Petco, people asking the staff about starting up a saltwater aquarium and the staff not really having a clue in telling that person how to set one up. I was just at Petco the other day (for dry goods) :) and overheard some young girl and her mother ask the staff about getting a tank for a yellow tang. The girl who was working there had to look it up in a book to see what the tank requirements were and said it need a 75. The customer was wanting a 20 gallon. Then, the staff said that they could order a lemon peel angel fish and that it looks like a yellow tang and would be fine in a 20. I wanted to tell these people about reef central and that they should get books and learn before getting into this hobby but I didn't. I was in Petco about a week ago and noticed that they had three small Maxima clams in their so called reef tank with only a couple of antinic lights and they didn't even fed them what they eat. The employee said that they eat zooplankton, ummm, ok, sure, and they haven't even fed them at that time because they got them in a few days ago. That really made me mad, so I contacted the Petco Customer Satisfaction Coordinator and told him about the way that they treat their animals. He wrote me back and said this.
"Dear Aaron
Thank you for contacting PETCO!
Each department has specialist in their field. The aquatics department has a trained aquatics specialist that should no all about the care and feeding of animals in his/her department. An associate from another department might not no the specifics about all of the aquatics. I will forward your e-mail onto the store management to make sure they are taking the appropriate care of the aquatic animals in question. Thank you for taking the time to write us.
If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to contact me at 1-888-824-PALS (7257).
Thank you for your loyal support and have a great week!
Take care,

Sorry for rambling, I just wish that people who are getting into this hobby and those who are allready in it, including store employees know as much as they can about it, atleast the basics. I know I don't know know a whole lot, I've only been in this a year but I think that I've learned quite a bit and try to help as many as I can and learn from as many as I can. I do know that I probably wouldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for Reef Central. All I had to go by was my years having fresh water tanks. I started my tank one month before I knew about Reef Central and I realized that I didn't have a clue when I started leaning here at Reef Central. I'm not much into books so I dought that I would have bought a book anywhere. My tank originally was going to just have NO lights, power filter, crushed coral substrate (thought that was a must, hehehe), fake coral and some fish. I'm sure glad that I came on here and learned valuable information, otherwise my tank would have crashed early and I would have given up because I had no clue. Any thoughts or comments would be great. Thanks:)
