I am looking into purchasing a new digital camera. I am specifically looking into the Fuji S5000. There are a ton of cameras out there and every 3rd person swears by a different one. This made me curious as to what everyone else is using and if they are happy with their camera.

What kind of camera is everyone using here in Iowa?

Are you using a digital camera?
Are you happy with it or not?
Would you recomend it to someone else and why?

i use a canon powershot a70. pretty user friendly. excellent point and shoot camera for beginner. many manual options for those wishing more control. i believe an excellent value for the price paid. approx $300. it is a 3.2 mp. add on lenses available to boot. i've also used, and still own a nikon coolpix 775. it is a 2.1 mp and could probably be found very cheap by now. i was and still am very pleased with its macro capability.

I know I am not in DSM, but I wanted to let you know I think fuji makes a great camera. I am very happy with my A101. It is very small and low res. but it works for web stuff pretty well. I would talk to HOC about his camera as it seems to be one of the nicer digis I have seen and I keep hearing people buying them for their tank use. I believe his is a Cannon.

I have a Canon Power Shot S30. And I hate it! Maybe I just haven't learned how to use it but, i have had it for about a year now, and have given up on aquarium photos. It is great for anything else, but i just don't think it is meant for "aquarium use". I barrowed a Sony Mavica a little while ago, and it was awesome, I loved it, and if you ever see any pictures from me that you can actually tell what the picture is of, it was taken with that camera. I paid close to $300 for the Canon too, I think.

Travis, thank you for pointing out my Iowa/Des Moines error. We want to hear from everyone around here. :-)

Anyone taking picturs under 20k only? What are your tricks?

i have a canon rebel (not a digi) and very happy with it. i would check in to the rebel digi with a 100mm macro if it was me.

I was looking at that exact camera. The reason that I didn't get it was because what you see through the eyepiece is smaller than what the lense sees. Check it out at www.dpreview.com/. Two real good cameras are the Canon Rebel EOS 300D and the Nikon 5700 coolpix. Both are expensive though, $800+ nikon to $1500 for Canon w/lense.

I use a Canon G3 digital. They came out with he G5 right after I got it, but it's expensive. I think mine was around $500 if I remember right. IMO one thing to look for is adjustability. A point and shoot camera won't allow you to compensate for all the uv and blue coming from our lights. If I had it to do all over again I'd prob go with a Nikon as they take the best macro shots. Hard to find one around here though. The G3 is a good camera though and lot's of peeps on this board use it.

I use a kodak DC5000 2.1 mp water resistant and built like a tank.
I don't think the camera is offered for sale anymore.
Not that I worry about dropping it in the tank but if it happens I'm covered :)
I think my next camera is going to be a Nikon Coolpix just because of the great macro shots they take.

I've got a Kodak DC3400, but it's about 3 years old. It's okay, but I doubt I'd buy another one. I don't actually know what Kodak's newest offerings are, but mine chews up batteries and the picture quality is not the best.

If I were looking for reviews and info on new cameras, I'd check out Cnet. You get an editor rating and user feedback rating.

I just bought a nikon 5700 at nebr furniture mart. nikon is running a rebate program, and the mart is running intrest free promotion for i believe 24 months. It cheapened the price of a really good camera considerably

I've got a Nikon 4300, just got it about a month ago so haven't had too much time to get used to all the features, but here's a few shots with it.

I have borrowed a friends Olympus C5050 today. Taking lots of pictures and will see how it does under my 20k lighting. Hoping for the best here...

Okay, here are some clam photos using a borrowed Olympus C5050. This camera is still too rich for my blood however. Just trying to figure out a camera that is quite a bit of a change from my consumer SONY CyberShot DSC-P51.

Still not quite what I am looking for in quality, but I am sure that it is due to my lack of knowledge of photography.

I have modified these pics trying to make it look more like real life.

We recently bought a Sony DSC-V1 Cybershot, and aside from it being a little small for my big hands, it's a terrific camera. Will also double as a MPEG recorder, and with a 128 MB memory stick, you can plan on about an hour or two of recording time.

Great camera. I'll post pics this weekend if I have time.

I have a canon power shot S30 and I like it. You can see some pics from my website if you want to take a look at em. I am still learning the whole macro shot thing. Maybe there is a camera out there that takes better macro's but I have seen some stunning macro's taken with my camera. Be sure to use a tripod when doing macro's or you will definitely get a blurry pic.

Just click the www or go to www.southslope.net/~cbenn

I will be updating it probably after xmas when I get some new rock. I plan on getting some base rock from hirocks.

CCAniman,

Do you have a possitive ID? Is this the same?

You don't have to have an expensive camera to get good pictures.
Here are some pics with my Kodak DC5000 2.1 mp with a cheap close up lens

I have finally purchased a new camera! I got the Fuji FinePix S602Z. I am very amazed at the quality of this camera. I have also purchased a photo box from MELEV for taking top down photos.

Check out this thread to see photos from the same Fuji camera and the topdown photo box here. Very nice photos...
