Can you use any type of 100% silicone for an aquarium or does it have to be specifically for aquarium use?

Not just any kind but you can use most 100% silicone as long as it doesn't have any additives like mildew resisters added to it.

If you do a search you should be able to find specific brands people have been using.

I'm pretty sure GE Door and Window 100% silicon is one of them.

I have used stuff in the past that I purchased from LOWES. It was advertised as 100% silicone. The stuff was horrible. I allowed it to dry for a week, then I put water in. Less than 3-days later, the stuff was white, lost its seal, and was flaking off in the 50-gallon drum full of fresh RO/DI water. It was a waste.

I then went and purchased a tube of the All-Glass silicone tube from a LFS here in DSM. Kind've expensive, ($6.xx for a small tube) but the real deal. It dried quickly. Unfortunately, it is very thick and in the process of getting the last of it out, the tube was breaking apart.

Would have been nicer to have had something in a caulking gun.

If someone has had good experience with a particular brand, how about mentioning what brand and where you picked it up from.

Use clear GE Silicone "1" and you will have no problems.

You can get the AGA silicon here in Davenport. Even the caulking gun tube type.
