well I did the plumbing last weekend which was no big deal or even pretty but it works. One problem I came across is the lack of flow running to the sump. I had to turn the retrun pump down so much it was basically usless.... So now Im trying to figure out ways to increase the flow to the sump.

Im not going to have it drilled again. This is an older tank and to be honest i dont trust drilling it. I have one overflow box on the way that is going to do 800 gph this should help out a lot.

I may also have to run a couple of closed loops.

Diy skimmer is almost done I will post a pic today. I just have to trim the foot of it down and cut the return pipe down some its basically a ASM knock off.....so its a knock off of a knock off of a euro reef...

Any worries about too much algae with all the natural sunlight that tank will get there?

no..... the screened in back porch is becoming a room in the spring time....Also my back yard is coverd in tall pine trees and it doesnt get much sun at all.

I was thinking about that when i decided to put the tank there.

Not very attractive but I'm sure it will work. Do you think it is large enough to handle a 300?

i agree not the best looking thing but if someone comes into my house and sees a beautiful 300g reef and says hummmmmmmm ugly skimmer im going to kick them out:lol:

yes its the same dimenisons then the asm thats rated for a 350g. Its acutally 1-2" taller.

Actually, all the sunlight you'll get from the glass door will be the best thing you'll have. Coral will love it.

the room outside wont let in much light at all once its finished....It would like it now that I think about it. Richard harkers tank is lite by the sun basically....he has a few 65k pendents. You can see pics of his tank in my gallery...one thing you will notice is the lack of color his corals have..

I meant that the sunlight in addition to the artificial lighting, but not by itself. I know a lot of people here in RC have tanks lit by sunlight alone and they do get good colors, although this is more prevalent among LPS than SPS. I ahve used radium in the past and the color it offers the tank and the corals are great. However, they are more than pathetic when it comes to growth ans supplying enough PAR for most SPS. That is not to mention the fact that they only last about 4-5 months at best. I think the only way I wwould ever go back to use them is if I had tons of sunlight hitting my tank. I would run them for like 6 hours/day and actinic during daylight time. You would get the best of both worlds then.
