Other than when they fully expand from the contracted state when they are stressed?

Do they grow depending on the size of the tank or will they just keep growing independent of space?

Have a 12 gallon Eclipse and don't want to buy an anemone only to have it take over the tank.

Just installed a 32 watt brightlite retro, should be enough for a bubble tip.

Anemone growth is more dependent on feeding than tank size. If you feed it well enough that it will not shrink but not too much, it won't grow very quickly. If you feed it as much as it will eat, then it will take over very quickly.

I really would recommend against an anemone in that small of a tank with the minimal lighting. Basically you would be limiting it's nutrient intake to what you feed it. The lighting isn't really enough to support zooaxantelae (sp?) and the water volume isn't large enough for good filter feeding.

That said I agree that it really depends on how well you feed the anemone how it grows. The overall health of it also needs to be good for growth. It won't grow if it is in poor health upon purchase.
