Did anyone just see the story on FoxNews about the worlds largest fish tank? I think they said it was 52 stories high, but I couldnt tell from the video.
It has an elevator INSIDE the tank. Saltwater.
It was a very large cylinder shaped tank.
I could not find any more info on it on their web site

Would it even be possible to have a tank that is about 700ft tall? If it is true, It's probably several tanks that are supported seperately but is made to look like one. I'd love to see some pictures of it though.

The tank is real, I saw most of the short story on "Around the world in 80 seconds" on Foxnews last night. Sheppard Smith talked about the tank while showing video of the cylinder shaped tank. It is very large. They also showed video from inside the glass elevator as it was traveling up. The elevator is actually INSIDE the tank. So as you ride up the elevator there are fish all around you.

I cant find it on the web yet. I tried the foxnews.com site and searched with key words on Google.

I could have sworn that he said it was 52 stories high, but people were talking and I couldnt get it clearly. But it sure looked tall. I saw butterflies swimming, so it is Salt water.

900.000 liters of water (approx 225.000 gallons, 14 meter (42') high tank. It states also that it will be the largest aquarium in the world.

Wow, it will be nice when finished

Thanks for finding the link Loudz34
That sure is a big tank

At 225,000 gallons, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the LARGEST tank in the world, but the TALLEST tank in the world. I know that just the public aquaium in Virgina Beach has a 300,000 gallon aquarium - I'm sure there are plenty that size.

Nevertheless, that might be the most IMPRESSIVE tank, especially from an engineering standpoint.

depends what you call an aquarium i guess...

i would call the killer whale tanks at seaworld an aquarium, and those are obviously larger than that! lol...

i mean it has a large viewing screen and stuff!

the monterey bay kelp forrest exhibit holds 335,000 gallons, and the outter bay exhibit holds 3,785,400 liters (1 million gallons) and the viewing window is 56 feet long and 17 feet high (about 17 meters long and 5 meters high). It was welded together from five pieces of acrylic 13 inches (33 centimeters) thick

so i am guessing that is def. not the biggest! LOL

Yes, the Monterey Aquarium is one of my favorites. They have two very large exhibits, including the Kelp forest which is huge.

When I was originally trying to find the German link I typed "largest aquarium" in google and found some large tanks, many of which are more than 300,000 gallons.

Here is the 2nd largest tank in the world (Okinawa)
Churaumi Aquarium (http://japanupdate.com/previous/02/11/08/story1.shtml)
I think it has 1,875,000 gallons (I assumed water weighed 8 lbs and calculated)

4 floors, open roof to sun and they used all live corals which they are trying to cultivate and re-release into the ocean.

they prob. meant the largest REEF tank

Or maybe they meant that it was the largest in glass/acrylic only?

Anyway it is quite big :D

I think the difference is in the wording:
Tank as opposed to aquarium.

So Cool! Makes you wanna travel around the world to visit the world's largest tanks... similar to people who aim to see a baseball game in all of the Pro stadiums!!

btw here is the "Largest Aquarium Claim" info...

The AquaDom is set to break all records as the largest cylinder aquarium in the world, at over 52 feet in depth by 36 feet in diameter.

more info..

This engineering marvel took 150 tons of acrylic to complete. ICM subcontracted Reynolds Polymer Technology to engineer and install the acrylic. The AquaDom was constructed with 24 R-Castâ„¢ acrylic panels for the outer cylinder and 15 R-Castâ„¢ acrylic panels for the inner cylinder bonded together to look seamless. The panels were shipped from the Reynolds Polymer Technology factory in Colorado and then bonded together on-site. Bonding on-site was a complex process with the panels bonded in an upright position within specially constructed environmentally controlled rooms.

"The Aquarium Restaurant

Kemah, Texas, is the site of one of ICM's most dramatic accomplishments, and a new addition to Texas' list of bragging rights. Texas can now add having the tallest cylinder aquarium in the world to their list.

Landry's Aquarium Restaurant, seated on the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico, utilized ICM's specialty contracting experience in the remodeling of their seafood restaurant."
