I attached my Smartlight retro to my 12 Eclipse last night, wow what a difference! I had to modify it a little because the 12 eclipse does not have the same light base as other Ecplise hoods.

Anyway, the thermometer on the side of my tank showed an increase in temperature of 2 degrees w/the light on for only 2 hrs last night. Is this normal? The thermometer is placed closer to the top of the tank so I think this may have something to do with it. Can I expect this light to really heat up the tank water that much?

If so, any fan recommendations for this small a tank?
Thanks

What temp is the tank at with the light on. Alot of people keep there tanks in the low to mid 80s. HTH

Around 81 but don't want it to go much higher right?

That should be a safe temp to keep it at. If you develope heat problems you could place a fan on a timer next to your tank. It works for me, my temp stays between 79-81 degrees. HTH

I have an Eclipse 1 hood over an all-glass 12 gallon tank, with 2x32watters over it & temps stay in the 80-81 range. If you have a heat spell, etc., just open the filtration cover in your hood: should vent things fine.
