My 20g with 20 lbs of live rock has been set up for about 2 months. I am adding a 10g sump to increase the water volume and hide some of the equipment.I siliconed in a piece of glass dividing the tank 70/30. The return will come in the large section, flow over the glass, and be pumped back up from the small section. I was going to put some live (rubble) rock in the large section, but a salesman from a lfs said the water it would displace was more important than the rock. Any input on what should be done with this seven gallon space would be welcome. Thanks Ryan

Ryan, the added live rock benefits will probably out weigh the benefits of a few more gallons of water, but the extra water wont hurt. Your live rock will probably sprout lots of sponges and mini tube worms etc, these will all contribute to improved water quality. You could light your sump opposite the main tank and start some macro algae like caulerpa etc, which will help stabilize pH

I also agree, the rock would be a good thing to have since it is a natural filtration device. If you have space, why waste it with just water? Use it to your advantage.
