I just thought I'd let everyone know that Justin over at www.diyreef.com will sell any SE Coral Vue metal halide for $40 each. The only catch is that you must buy a case, mix/match. Shipping is $17.50. The retail on these bulbs are $54(pretty good) but $40 is unreal. I had no idea that the markup was that much on bulbs!! Oh and you can get an $5 off coupon. Blue

Are you coordinating a group order ? I would most likely be in for 2 @ 175wt 10Ks if you decide to order.

Sorry Norm you missed it by two days. I already ordered a case. They should be here in a couple days. There should be enough reefers here for someone to order another case. Blue

That's the story of my life - always two days short and two bulbs needed.

Actully my bulbs are only about 4 months old so I really can wait awhile but, I thought I'd try another Kolor while they were priced right.

I think they were just too bright for my tank. I have two 175's a few inches off the water on a 20 long... (Yeah, I know...)
The CoralVue's seem to give off a lot more light then my Ushio's and they are longer as well, it was just too much for my tank and I had a coral or two start to bleach out. I probably could have raised the canopy, or went through a long acclimation process to the new bulbs, but I just didn't have it in me so I tossed the Ushio's back in and called it a day.

Just checking to be sure that the bulbs were'nt defective or that you did not like the color of them. Thanks Blue......Well Norm What'cha gonna do??

I actually was thinking they were "bad" bulbs for a while, but I don't believe that to be the case based on the different reactions I got from my corals, I just think they were too bright.

The light was nice and crisp white as advertised, I could really see a difference in the color in the tank, but... I didn't have it in my to go through an adjustment period, so I pulled em.

Sorry to dig up this old thread Blue but I was wondering if this kind of deal could happen still . I will be needing around 5 175's and 1 400 . So a buy like this could save me some good cash.

I have a CoralVue 10k, 250W with essentially 1-2 days of partial use. Because this brand of bulb is not compatible with my older IceCAP MH ballasts it squeels something awful.

$35 if you want it.

Hey guys, I found this thread via a search. How many bulbs to a case ? I am thinking of asking Justin if he will do a similiar deal for our reef club.......

How old is your ballast? I just ordered two 250W IceCAP ballasts on sale at Champion Lighting and was planning on running 10000K Coralvue bulbs. I can't remember where it was, but there was a test done with these bulbs on these ballasts and I believe the results were pretty good. Now, I'm sort of nervous.

He mentioned "Older" style Icecap. You shouldn't have anything to worry about with the current Icecap ballast model.
