Come one, come all! THIS Saturday, November 15th, at 7PM is the Seabay meeting, and everyone, member or not, is invited and encouraged to attend!
As usual there will be free cookies, refreshments, and coffee. And I'll be giving a presentation about reef lighting. Just to keep those eyes open wide, I'll be bringing several hundred watts of light bulbs and ballasts too, virtually every type of bulb in the hobby and enough light to make it look like ET's spaceship has finally come back! Also, I'll be covering points about canopy design by taking a look at two homebrew canopies and a highend perfessional pendant.
Of course, we'll conclude the meeting with our famous raffle (and you never know what might be in the raffle this time).
See you there!

I personally LOVED the meeting. I learned SO much about lighting. There is so much to learn and I think Roger did a great job of explaining it. My girlfriend doesn't know much about reef tanks and even she had a great time. All the info was well researched. Those HO T5s were great. I also liked the comparison of all the different halide bulbs. Thanks again Roger.

I really loved seeing all the lighting examples there. It was good to see what T5s look like in real life. Those lights are bright! It's funny that the T5 technology was originally created for jewelry displays.
It was also good to hear an explanation why the 250-watt double-ended metal halide bulbs can be so efficient. Essentially, a custom reflector can be built around them so that they can give as much power as a 400-watt single ended. The only bad thing about the talk is that I'm already thinking of replacing my VHOs with T5s and my 2x250-watt single ended lights with 2x250 double-ended metal halides!

Thanks for all the info on lighting Roger! I didnt really need to know how much less efficient my 20000K bulbs are compared to the Iwasaki's but that gives me an excuse to upgrade  It was great that you and John brought in all the different lights for people who were curious.

Thanks, guys! I certainly enjoyed doing the research, and I probably learned as much as anyone while doing it. I'm sure I'll do more research in time along with Rex, our regular workshop expert. There definitely are many hardware items that would interesting to know more about.
PS - And just to make my day yesterday, I found out that the IceCap ballast that I thought I blew during the meeting now works fine! I guess what really happened was that the ballast threw some sort of protection circuit on because there wasn't a bulb connected and it was on. The reason I thought it blew was because I heard the ballast whining during the meeting. I figured any sort of protection that would have been thrown, wouldn't allow the ballast to whine like that. Anyway, I'm just glad it works now!
