Those of you with large tanks...

I am looking for your advice on a Calcium Reactor for 300 Gallons. This is the total volume (230 Gallon Display Tank & 70 Gallon Sump & Refugium).

The community reef tank will be home to a few reef-safe fish, bu wll also include several invertebrates as well as many soft corals and a few SPS. Liverock (~200 pounds) and a 5-inch DSB will also be present. Calcium demands are expected to be moderate for this volume.

I want a Ca Reactor that will be adequate for this system and without having to upgrade later on. I do not want to be using a Ca Reactor as well as dosing with Kalkwasser. Last, but not least...it must be reasonably priced.

If you have any Ca Reactor suggestions, please let me know.

Get a GEO reactor from premium aquatics. Affordable, well built, and you won't be sorry.

Go with a Pro Cal , from Marine Technical Concepts.

Very well built, and it will handle up to 700gal

$ 700.00, or 800.00 bucks but it's worth every penny

If money is no object, an MTC can't be beat. They are fine pieces of equipment.

I, myself, have a budget, and my MyReefCreations CR2 is just cranking on my 540g system (300g show tank, 75g sps included)...

Best bargain for your dollar, and well, it works...

I agree with the rec. on GEO. Quality product at a price far better than MTC.

I am running a single chamber MyReef on my 215 and it keeps that Ca at 440 with no problems. Had it a year so far. Andy provides great customer service and makes a great product.

Thanks guys!!
It looks like a toss up between the GEO and MTC. The GEO seems much cheaper than the MTC and I have since read a few other posts about this Ca Reactor. Most are positive. Now I just have to find a new or used one at a bargain price.

I've got a 330 plus 130 gallons of sump/refugium. I use an MRC-1 Ca reactor with a DIY'd second chamber. I also use a MyReef Kalk reactor for top off.
This combination maintains my calcium in the very high 400's with about 25 pieces of SPS in the tank (mostly frags).
I think using both systems is great, it gives you the benefits of each one (boy that sounded dumb).

If you got the geo, what else would you need to make it work?

Nothing but the CO2 equipment.

This is a huge overstatement. No, I have never had one, but I can tell you based on the engineering of the reactor and its design, it is not the best. I can about guarantee you that the delted fluidized reactors beat the pants off the MTC. Don't get me wrong. The MTC is a very good reactor and unlike a lot of others, it does what it is supposed to do and requires very little twicking because it is very well made. However, nothing it does or comes with justifies the cost. No question about that.
Not trying to argue with you, but like many other things, this is one that is way over-rated.:eek2: :eek2:

OK, so what makes the MTC and the Deltec so much better than any other? Very curious. Contact time? Fluidized? Bubble recirc.?
Just trying to find more info on these.
