Paul- You aquascaped your reef aquarium for 3 dimensional viewing perfectly. You have a Ritteri anemone {Heteractis magnifica}, eh? Very nice!

Very nice looking tank. What are the dimensions ?

Hi all,

cleaning the glass has to be one of the worst jobs, it needs doing every other day and theres over 40 square feet of it. The tank dimensions are 73" x 30" x 39" high with a 48" x 18" x 18" sump

Under the tank is a deltec Ca reactor and kalk stirrer, A deltec ap703 skimmer, two 3500 l/hour return pumps and t5 lighting

Main tank lit by 3 x 250w arcadia series3 light unit.

I've had the anemone over a year now and it is growing fast.

I hope to update the gallery soon.

Saw on your web site that you had a moorish idol in there. Is he still alive and if so, how long have you had him? What have you done to keep him alive? Nice set up. I like the use as a room divider.

Unfortunately I no longer have him. He took a few weeks to start eating frozen food but fortunately there were a few sponges in the tank to keep it going. Once it started feeding it would take anything including flake food and lettuce. It was growing well and looking great until one morning it was gone.
I think the anemone eat it. It had a large Naso tang a few months earlier and has had a few fish since. I was really upset because this difficult fish was doing so well. I dont think I will replace it as all the people I know with adult Moorish Idols have had problems with their sps corals being eaten. I have recently added a copperband butterfly which is just starting to feed well, hope this one has the sense to stay away from the anemone.

Ok, what i really want to know is how you taught your yellow tang to do back-flips, that is way too funny.
Great tank!

paul--that is such a beautiful tank! wow, your anemone eats fish... how big were the fish? do your tangs ever fight?

Pavlo

Thanks for the nice comments

Yes the anemone does eat fish. the largest has been a naso tang which was about 4 inches long. It has also had a few cardinals and some coral gobies.

The tangs get on fine most of the time, occasionaly there will be a torn fin here or there but on the whole, no problems.

Oh and the yellow tang video in the gallery is not mine, I was just hosting it for a friend. I was informed by a fish doctor that it was probably brain damaged and wouldnt live long. I dont know if it still alive

i've been told to add new tank mates every week to avoid territorial fights... how did you go about adding all of your fish?

Pavlo

Its about 20" diameter, I got it a year ago when it was about 10" diameter. I dont feed it too often because I dont want it to grow too fast

I took one yellow tang from my old system and put it in the current system at the same time as adding five new yellow tangs.

This caused a few fights but nothing too bad, I then added the three regals a few weeks later but they were very small and there was no agression. The rest of the fish went in in no particular order without any problems

Very nice looking tank, I love how you set up the rock. I thought I was the only odd person with a tank in the kitchen. :)

A few questions...

how many yellow tangs do you have total?

how many fish do you have overall??

could you take a picture of the ritteri anemone by itself??
