Hi,

There was some interestg in ordering live rock again. I am just checking to see how much interest there would be. If we get 400 -500 lbs I will order it.

Let me know if you are interestested and how much you need.

I wouldn't mind waiting for a couple of weeks. I don't know exactly how much I will need. Also it should be cool enough to cure the rocks outside so I don't have to sleep on the couch. :-)

Mike,
I'm still about a month away from ordering 100 to 150 lbs. I started my floor tile project last weekend and will finish up next Sunday. Then comes the new stand and canopy and finally the tank. I have a blue plastic pool or two to cycle the rock in until then though if the order ends up sooner than a month or so. I will keep in touch.

Sorry to tell you guys this, but all LR from Fiji is currently not being imported. Fiji screwed up their CITIES paper work. There is a thread in the general forum with the details. Walt Smith thinks they will be shipping again in a week or so.

Anyway, when it is available again, I would like to get a box of Fiji on this order if possible.

Thanks John for the update.

Hi,

Well I talked to my supplier yesterday and he thinks Fiji will start shipping in about 10 - 12 days. They are updating thier certification process.

Please let me know who is interested, how much rock you would like and what kind.

Thanks,

Hi Kevin,

You can log in to East Coast Clams and see pictures of live rock. Maybe some of the people who brought rock last time will chime in and confirm the fact that it was really great rock.

Thanks,

There's no link for live rock on their website anymore.

I think Rob took the wholesale LR off his webpage because nothing is shipping out of Fiji at the moment. However, check out some pictures courtesy of Livestock USA:

That rock does look nice! I believe Tonga deepwater is the same as Kaelini, right?

There are different types of Tonga LR, and Kaelini is one form of Tonga. There will be great variations within the same type of LR because "tonga", "Fiji", "Marshall Island", etc only signify their location. Kaelini actually is the name of Walt Smith's daughter (loosely translated/sounded out by the native islanders). If you want to check out Kaelini, Reefermadness has some really nice photos as well:

Reefermadness Live Rock (http://www.reefermadness.us/RM-LiveRock.htm )

I believe Kaelini is found in deeper waters, but it's not necessarily synonymous with Tonga Deepwater.

I hope that helps!

Hi Rob,

Do you have an active link to your website with any updated prices or pictures of the LR?

Thanks!

Hi,

Hi John, good to hear from you. Sure you can join in, the more the merrier. I am thinking the first or second week in Dec. (sometime after the Turkey day). Is this OK with everyone? Which week would be better?

Thanks,

Well count my friend out. He'll be ready for rock next week, and will just call ECC himself. Sorry, hope this doesn't affect pricing for everyone else.

All of the live rock from ECC is uncured, so no matter how soon you get it, there's still a 2-8 week curing time before it's completely cycled. However, if you get it a week sooner, I suppose it will also cure a week sooner, theoretically.

Mike,
How big were the boxes of Kaleni last time. The ECC website says 50 to 80 lbs. whereas the Fiji and others say 40 to 50 lbs. I need somewhere between 100 and 150 lbs so maybe 3 boxes is too much??? If they really exceed 50 lbs per box my budget says go with 2 boxes. Can you check with them and see how heavy they have been averaging?

I am still interested in the box of tonga branch. If some one wants to split the box with me that is cool since I probably dont need a full box.

I'm interested in a couple pieces of Tonga, but can't cure it at my house. PM if you need the help with consuming a box and can cure it for me. I'll pay a few extra bucks.

I have not told him yet but I was planning on curing it over at Mojo's with his rock since he has the big contianer to cure it in and he is getting some anyways.

AJ, I think you directed this question to Big Mike, but I can tell you that Rob will do his best to find boxes that will satisfy your weight requirement within ±10%. If you need 150lbs, you might end up getting 3 smaller boxes of ~50lbs or possibly 2 really large boxes of ~75lbs. Just give Big Mike the amount you need and they'll try to get you that much rock. Also, realize that 150lbs could vary 10-20% just in water weight, so you might get 120lbs of really dry LR with a soaking wet box that weighed in ~150lbs.

I stopped selling rock for a short period, because of some control issues. Jt, formerly of Harbour Aquatic, who now works at the importers, is taking care of it, and weighing each box himself. There should be very little headaches.

Hi,

Please don't worry about getting the weight you want, I will do everything, short of opening boxes at the airport, to make sure you get what you want.

Those of you that are interested please PM me your phone number and what you want. I am going to order for delivery the second week in Dec. This seems to be the best time for everyone.

Thanks,

I'm ready! Question for you mike or anyone else? I have read a couple of posts suggesting mixing different types of rock. Is kealini much different than fiji as far as looks or life that is on it? Do you think I should go 2 boxes of kaelini and 1 of fiji or something like that? I honestly don't know what it looks like so am looking for guidance.

Kaelini is much nicer looking than Fiji. For the extra 50 cents per pound, I would definately urge you to Kaelini.

Thanks Rob,
Thats kinda what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. Will 2 or 3- 20 or 30 gallon Rubbermaid tubs hold 150 lbs for curing? I have several pumps and powerheads for circulation, a PrizmPro and a Turboflotor skimmer and a couple of heaters to get it going. I think I'm ready.

Thanks again,
A.J.
