My guess would be the AB lamp.

By the way, I used to use the 250w AB DE's in my Aquaspacelight, but have since switched to the XM DE's. They're not as bright, but my corals have "blued up" considerably.

The AB's were great for bringing out the greens in my corals.

I like the color of the ABs over the Ushios in the DE lamps - slightly stronger bluish tint IMO. Never tried the XMs.

I have only used the ushio to date... But the color is great and so is the growth....

I have Ushio, switching to AB this next change. Like Chris sez, a hair more blue. I doubt if there's a big diff, growth wise.

there is a 14k DE bulb, looks bright, no need for actinic supplementation http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5077&papass=&sort=1&thecat=998, sorry to intrude, but I'm in the same situation...

Actually has very nice colors but maybe a little dim? Is that the 250w DE? If so who makes that bulb? Thanks Danny

Since using the following 20k bulbs on a 2x250w Aquaspacelight: XMs, and most recently Coralvue, I'm of the opinion that the AB 10k DE bulb is the best overall. I prefer the color with a bit of actinic.

The other bulbs made my corals look washed out. I did like the blue for a period of time, but it just became too much for me.

I'd love to try the new Giesemann true 13k bulb. But, I think I'd prefer to try it out on a couple of new Nova II pendants.:D (anyone want a 2x250w Aquaspacelight+PC???).

i've used both the ushio & AB. i'll be using the XMs on my next tank. while the XM's are not as bright and white as the Ushio & AB, it doesn't necessarily mean they have less par. they emit less light that's visible to our eyes.

i've also heard great things about the Coralvue bulbs, i believe they come in both 10k and 20k, and are the cheapest 250W HQI bulbs i've seen so far.

i don't have the par values for the XM or Coralvue, just wanted to point out that fact.

Opihi -- I just sold one week-old 20k Coralvue 250w DE bulb, and one XM 20k 250w DE (3-1/2 months old).

I have one set of the above bulbs left if you're curious. I'll even overnight them for only $10 shipping!

You're going poor? Hah! I'M POOR! Setting up a high-tech freshwater tank is cheaper than a new reef, but still expensive. So far I'm well over $2,000 for just a 90g tank.

And now, separate from that, I've got the idea in my head that I need to buy Giesemann lighting for my reef and order a starphire tank to replace my 90g acrylic. I guess Christmas is early for me!

I'll give you the same advice - buy my Aquaspacelight! :p

Hey, the $2K plus is for *freshwater*.

I'm over $6k on my 90g SPS tank, and am considering "investing" (hah!) another $1,500 in it shortly.
