I was thinking about switching to 250W DE from 400W SE to reduce my electricity bill and figured I'd share some of what I came up with.

For 1 400W MH running 11 hours a day at Niagara Mohawk's rate of 11 cents per KW-Hour, it costs approximately $15 per month.

With the same parameters, a 250W MH costs about $9 per month.

So basically, it's $6/month more expensive to run a 400W halide over a 250W halide.

But the main question, Does it look better? And is that look worth 6 more bucks to you?

A 250W DE will run about as bright as a 400W SE, so I don't think there will be much appearance difference.

The three reasons why I am probably going to stick with 400W is that I already have the equipment, there is more bulb selection, and DE require expensive pendants.
