So I took a look at my tank this morning to find a silver dollar sized hairy crab (with those damn red eyes) ripping the guts out of my (what I thought was a thriving) T. maxima. Even though I know most clam/worm attacks are just scavengers taking advantage of an already dead/dying clam, this clam was healthy (had fully recovered from the beginnings of bleaching -- looked wonderful and had been growing steadily.

What would be the quickest and most painless way for me to put down this mortally wounded clam? I feel just awful. At least this was a maricultured clam, not wild caught.

Too bad about the clam.

I know it looked pretty good, but something was probably amiss with it.

Look, I know this will sound flip, but I would just "shuck" it. There's not a lot of animal in there, and well, that's what I would do.

Freeze it. Quickest, most painless way to put down a critter.
